"Mew stop itttt! IIDJSJST-it TICKLES!"
"I'm not babe anymore?"
"Stop!"
"No! Please... just don't"
"Goodbye Mew." I love you
"I love you Gulf... always."
"Doctor Kanawut? Doc.!"
He jolts awake catching his every breath as tears streams his eyes. It was one of those dreams again. The dreams he loves and recent the most. He can hear the muffled sounds of his surrounding as the voice of the man in his dreams was all he can hear clearly like a broken record. He felt a hand on his shoulder and he flinches as a reaction.
"Doc. Kana? Are you okay? What happened?" Concern was laced in his voice.
Kanawut looked at the face of the person who had woken him. It was Doctor Phana. He was one of the senior doctors at the hospital he is currently employed. One glance and he can see both nervousness and worry in the eyes of his senior.
"Sorry Doc. I think I had a nightmare out of the stressful surgery I had a couple of hours ago." He answered half lying. The hand on his shoulder was now gone as his senior stood up straight. Kana swiftly brush the tearstained on his face. As he looked at his senior again, the concerned eyes now with a hint of panicked are evident with the way he was sweating.
"You know you can tell me anything Doc." He said softly trying to dissipate the anxious atmosphere around them.
"I'm on prohibition," Phana said in a resigned tone. "An ambulance is yet to arrive. The patient did not acquire any head injuries and he only had a minor bone fracture but the paramedics noted that he might have internal injuries... to what extent is not yet known. " Phana added. Kana knew there are still words the doctor is dragging to say so he nodded in acknowledgment and looked at his senior expectantly.
"If there is any extreme internal bleeding... C-can you please take this surgery? Please! I j-just can't... I swear I owe you one for this! Y-you can ask me to fill in for you any day or do you want me to take your overtime shift for the whole month. Whole month? Um... yeah whole month... after my prohibition that is. That should make it up, right? I can't trust anyone with this surgery if there is any, other than you." His senior blabbers and face him with brows knit together and a frustrated looked on his face as he stares into Kana's eyes after pacing around in the small space around the side where the beds were situated.
"Oh, Doctor Phana!" He chuckled and with a smile on his face, he said "No need of such compromises. I would love to help." Then a realization crosses his mind "Although, I don't think my first assistant is in the hospital since Doctor Bow told me that she will have an important dinner with her family tonight."
"My first assistant, Tae, can!" Doctor Phana said in a heartbeat.
"Oh, that settles it then." He stood up and stretch. "I will give my scrub team a call. Please see through the MRI process because I think his parents would want that rather than a simple CT scan." He said as he made his way to the comfort room. That was also a cue for Doctor Pha to see himself out and wait for the upcoming ambulance to run some tests on the patient.
Kana washes his face and stares at the mirror. His tired eyes never lie but he can never give up. Not now. Not in this lifetime. He was always like this. He had chosen this profession to work himself out or he will go insane with the endless thoughts. This is my subtle punishment. Before he could put himself more in the pit of the suffocating memories, he drags himself out of the comfort room and called his scrub team taking note that his anesthesiology should be the first one to call.
He hastily wore his doctor's coat after calling his scrub team and went out of the on-call room. He went straight to the main desk and while walking he notices nurses and other medical staff's side glancing at him. Some were even double looking in his direction or whispering to each other. Why must the media cause a stir upon my own choices? It is not as if they will have to endure my job for me. Now everyone in my workplace sees me as a subject for gossip.
He tries not to let his irritation be shown but the brooding look on his face fails him miserably.
"Good evening Doctor Kanawut." A resident doctor that was using one of the computers designated for them greeted.
"Good evening Doctor Song." He said as he made his way to a vacant computer beside her.
"I've heard you had a rough start." She said while he inputs his name and password on the computer and lists of his patient's medical records appeared.
He looked in her direction and saw that she was already looking at him with fascination in her eyes. Smiling he said, "Aren't every day a rough day for us?" He heard her agreed on his sentiments but before she can speak more, she received a call which ended their conversation.
Kana maneuvers through the file of his second patient for today and he can't help but uttered the name out loud; "Suppasit Jongcheveevat"
