It was nice outside tonight. I wasn't cold but it wasn't hot either. It was just right. I was laying on the grass, Ponyboy beside me, and we were looking at the stars.

"Look, that one's the big dipper," Ponyboy said and pointed to the sky.

"Where, I don't see it," I said. 

He grabbed my hand and pointed my finger in the direction he was looking, "There."

He continued to explain about what stars made up some of his favourite constellations, not letting go of my hand. 

We stayed out there for about another hour when Ponyboy asked me for the time.

"It's twelve-o-nine in the morning," I said looking at my watch. 

"Oh shit, Darry's gonna kill me." He said. 

"You better get home then," I said. 

"What about you?" He asked.

"I'll walk home." 

"That's not safe. Let me walk you." He said.

"But you said so yourself, Darry's gonna kill you." I reasoned. 

"I don't care. I'll say I was walking you home. You know how he feels about you walking by yourself." 

"Fine," I said. 

We got up and started walking back to my place. It was quiet, other than the occasional rustle of the leaves on the trees from the wind.

We finally made it to my house and Ponyboy walked me up to the door. 

I fished my keys out of my pocket and turned to face Ponyboy. 

"Bye, Ponyboy," I said.

"Bye, Melon." He said and gave me a hug. The hug was tight and I never wanted to let go. 

He finally pulled away and gazed into my eyes for a minute. He quickly kissed me on the lips and before I could even register what happened, he was already down the porch steps.

"Bye!" He hollered and waved at me.

I was too stunned to stay anything so I just waved back. He chuckled and ran down the street to his house. 

I hoped he wouldn't get in trouble because of me.

"You gonna come inside or look like an idiot who's never been kissed before and stand out on the porch." My mother said making me jump. 

I turned to face her and gave her that 'what the hell?' kind of look. 

"He's cute. You should go out with him." My mother said and pulled me inside.
