After winning football tickets for the Euro 2020 semi final, you felt you'd had all the luck you were ever going to get, until after the game, when you meet the players, your life begins to go in a whole new direction...
The celebrations were in full swing when we arrived in the VIP lounge, everyone was singing and hugging each other, drinks were flowing and the mood in the room was that of pure and utter elation. I couldn't wait for Jack to arrive to celebrate with him properly.
Jess and I made our way to the bar and ordered some drinks, there were so many people here and we didn't know any of them. They all seemed to be mingling and laughing together and just as I started to feel a little out of place again, a young blonde woman came over and introduced herself to us.
"You're Karly right?" she said, smiling sweetly at me.
People I didn't know recognising me was going to take a lot of getting used to.
"Yeah I am" I nervously laughed, as she pulled me in for a friendly hug.
She hugged Jess as well and then introduced herself.
"I'm Kate, Harry's wife, Kane, not Maguire" she added, chuckling "It's so nice to meet you. Obviously seen all the stuff online the last few days and just want to tell you to ignore the negative stuff! People never have anything nice to say, and me and the other girls will have your back, don't worry" she smiled "Come over and join us while we're waiting for the lads to arrive, I'll introduce you to everyone" she added, walking away and beckoning us to follow her.
I turned around to look at Jess, pure terror etched on my face, and as I walked over to a large group of beautiful young women, Kate began introducing myself and Jess to them.
"This is Jordan's wife, Meg, Kyle's Fiancée Annie, Maguires wife Fern and his sister Daisy, Luke's Missus, Anouska and Dec's girl Lauren" they all said hi to me and how nice it was to meet me.
"So, this means Ben's single right?" said Jess, looking seriously from face to face. This broke the ice and we all burst out laughing.
"I believe so" said Fern "I've not heard anything about him with anyone for a while to be fair" she added "I take it you have a bit of a thing for Benny then" she teased, all the other girls joining in with the teasing.
"A bit" I added "You shoulda seen them at lunch, couldn't keep their eyes off each other" I piped in.
"You can talk" said Jess "You and Jack making out in front of the whole of Wembley Stadium" earlier, everyone laughed
"She's right ya know" Said Meg, "We all saw it, I feel I know you a lot better than I should considering we've only just met" we all laughed together, and I stood there wondering what I had been so worried about, they were all lovely and seemed my kind of people.
We stood around chatting and getting to know each other for what felt like only 5 minutes, when the DJ playing at the back of the room announced the arrival of the team...
"Here they are, our 2020 European Football Champions ENNNNNGGGGLLLAAAANNNNNDDD" he shouted, the room erupted in applause and whistles as the team all filtered into the room and much like before they were swamped by people wanting to congratulate them, buy them a drink, take photo's and so on.
"Right, lets grab that massive table over the back there before anyone else does" said Kate, grabbing her bag and making her way over to a large round table in the corner near the DJ, "Let the boys enjoy their moment and in the meantime we can get smashed" she cheered.
All the girls let out a little cheer in agreement.
"I'll give you a hand at the bar" I said, giving my bag to Jess and following Kate to the bar.
We came back with 8 shots of tequila, 4 large pitchers of varying coloured cocktails, some Jaeger Bombs, and some Champagne cocktails.
