TWENTY-EIGHT (II)

a/n: HELLO EVERYONE! i'm so sorry it took me this long to update :( i had some rough days, i couldn't sleep well and my anxiety has been really bad, i felt like i needed time for myself, and on top of all that, i got the second dose of the vaccine and the bitch made me sick as fuck

CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO - THE CHURCH

I've never hated being in a car as much as I hated the drive to the Pelican Yacht Club. I couldn't stop thinking about JJ's dad in the backseat, and also my brother and our friends trapped with the Twinkie in water infested with alligators.

I can't honestly comprehend how we keep getting in these situations. A few weeks ago, my biggest problem was trying to choose a college that my father could afford. Then he went missing, and everything went downhill.

I just want one normal day, just one. Is it too much to ask?

My thoughts get pushed away when Kie parks the car in front of the main door. JJ gets out immediately, and goes to grab the bag filled with supplies for his father. I stick my head out of the window, and I ask him, "Do you want me to go with you?"

His eyes go between me and Luke, and he purses his lips, before shaking his head. "No, I got this. Thank you, tho."

I sit back again, and I run a hand through my hair. Luke leans in, and touches Kiara's shoulder, catching her attention, "Hey, why don't you tell your mom hi?" He smirks.

JJ tells him to shut up from outside the car, and Luke chuckles. "Didn't I hit you hard enough? You want another one?" I squint my eyes, turning in my seat to face Luke.

The amusement leaves his features, and he gets out of the car when JJ tugs on his shirt, trying to get him to move. Kiara stares at JJ, and she looks really pissed when she says, "Make it quick."

JJ nods, and shares one last apologetic look with me, before turning to leave with his father. Kie pats my legs, and looks at me with her eyebrows raised just to drop them, pointing her chin at JJ's father.

"Hey, Luke." She calls him, and when he turns around, I quickly catch onto what she was trying to tell me, and we both raise our hands giving him our middle fingers.

It angers him more than what I had expected, and he tries to get through JJ to get to us, but my boyfriend blocks his way, "Go. Go!"

I watch them leave, and I let out a heavy sigh when they're out of my sight. I rub my eyes, with the heels of my hands, and I can't help but shake my leg in its place, feeling worried about leaving JJ alone with his father.
