Sarah and Brizo were waiting for John B to wake up. Sarah was sitting in the hospital bed holding his hand, while Brizo took the uncomfortable chair.
They both had been awake almost the entire night, waiting for someone to tell them how John B was. A nurse told them he would be fine, he only had a broken wrist and a concussion. Lucky bastard. Brizo thought.
The machine attached to John B started beeping a little bit faster when he opened his eyes looking around him in confusion.
"Hey" Brizo said standing up and walking over to him.
"Hi" Sarah said too, with a smile on her face.
"Where am I?" He asked still looking around.
"St. Olive's. You fell from the Hawk's Nest. You have a concussion and a broken wrist" Sarah explained.
"I still don't know how you survived that fall, Johnny boy" Brizo chuckled and John B laughed looking at his wrist.
"Whoa"
"Pretty cool, uh?" Sarah joked.
"We need to get outta here, Bee" He suddenly said. "DCS is gonna find us-" He tried to stand up but Sarah and Brizo held him back.
"Hang on there, kid. Hang on" Ward Cameron walked in the room. Brizo looked at Sarah's father with mistrust. "Sarah told me everything"
"Of course she did" Brizo scoffed earning a glare from John B.
"About your little adventure, about you running from the DCS, about how you were protecting her in the tower" Ward sighed. "John, I believe I owe you an apology. You were honest with me about a small indiscretion, and I went ahead and fired you anyway"
"You got fired and you didn't tell me?" Brizo snapped at her brother.
"Not now, Bee, please" He begged.
"I shouldn't have fired your brother, Brizo. I apologize. Unfortunately, from time to time, I have a bit of a... short fuse. Ask her" He said pointing to his daughter.
"Yeah, it's true"
"I'd like to make up for it, if you'll let me. I spoke with Sheriff Peterkin, and... I've offered to be your legal guardian, if you'll both have me" Ward looked at the twins with a smile on his face.
Brizo held her breath. She didn't trust this man, and she hoped her brother didn't too. She didn't want to be a kook. And she didn't want to be Sarah's new step-sister.
"What?" John B asked in disbelief.
"It'd mean a roof over your head and no more running from the DCS"
