Act 2 - Ominous Waltz The CreekClan camp was silent, frosty air filled Deerpaw's lungs as she searched for a sign of prey. Bumblepaw's flank brushed past her and got into a crouch, tiptoed past her, with his tail up in the air swishing.
Deerpaw sniffed again and the scent of mouse entered her senses, she took a small step back and crouched to give Bumblepaw space, she watched as he took one paw step closer, then pounced.
She heard the little mouse squeak in shock before going silent, he got up and looked over at Deerpaw, a mouse dangling from his jaw.
"Great catch Bumblepaw! We can give that one to Foxscar." Deerpaw meowed enthusiastically.
Bumblepaw gave a sheepish smile before he dug a small hole in the snow and plopped the prey inside to grab later. Just then a cat appeared behind them, it was Silkpaw!
"Hey guys! Catch anything?" Silkpaw greeted.
"H-hi, so far a-all we got was a m-mouse." Bumblepaw stuttered.
"Ok cool! Berryspots sent me to help with the hunt, shall we carry on?" Deerpaw purred in approval before the three trotted deeper into the forest.
Later on, the three apprentices strolled back into camp, Berryspots greeted them all.
"Hello you three! What did you manage to catch?" Her voice was steady but she looked worried about something.
"Not as much as we thought sadly.... but we managed a mouse, two thrushes and a shrew." Deerpaw's tail twitched.
Berryspots gaze was more calm now, she nodded in thanks, grabbed one of the thrushes in her jaw and strolled back to the medicine cat den.
Deerpaw scanned the twoleg pipe and spotted Ratpaw and Dragonpaw chatting with Rowanpaw, she nodded and walked out of the den. The three padded over to them and Deerpaw wrapped her tail around his flank and sat down. The six shared tongues for awhile.
"So guys, when do you think we'll be able to leave?" Dragonpaw wondered.
"Soon I hope, I really wanna go home now..." Ratpaw sighed.
Suddenly Willowstar emerged from her den, and called over her deputy and two senior warriors, she looked at Deerpaw, her expression blank. Deerpaw stared back at her, almost pleading to her, before she flicked her tail and disappeared into her den with the warriors.
"Only time will tell, I guess...." Deerpaw yawned at the others, "I got up really early so I'm pretty tired. I'm gunna go get some sleep, see you guys later." She waved her tail at the others.
