And Ron’s little ‘midnight snack’ adventure had become a whole event.
Honestly, Anna couldn’t talk - it wasn’t like she hadn’t been in since the second food was mentioned. (Plus, she also knew that Mrs. Weasley had made some of her amazing marzipan rather recently so...)
Somehow, they had all gotten roped into it, and now it was the children and the adults alike all snacking on sweets at 3 in the morning.
It began as something small - with them conversing and joking about the upcoming year and about Sirius’ deranged mother who screamed from the portrait down the hall, but then somehow, the conversation had somehow shifted to them finally getting answers.
“You’re too young!” Was Mrs. Weasley’s knee-jerk reaction, her eyes full of steel.
Sirius seemed to disagree.
“Since when did someone have to be in the Order of the Pheonix to ask questions?” He stood up for him. “Harry’s been in that muggle house for a month - he deserves to know what’s been happening!”
Anna nodded rapidly - hoping that her name would also be added to the list of people who get to know what’s going on.
“Wait - that’s not fair!” Fred exclaimed.
“Yeah! We’ve been trying to get answers for months! And Harry’s not even of age!” George added. Clearly, they were also trying to get answers like her.
“That’s your parent’s decision - not mine.” Sirius added hastily. “Harry on the other hand…”
Anna stood up - attempting to wipe the crumbs off her face so she’d look more ‘business’. “I agree. I mean, Mrs. Weasley decided that she doesn’t want them to know since they’re her kids, but I think I’m in the same boat as Harry - I was there when Voldemort came the first time and when he came back in that graveyard - shouldn’t I also get to know what’s been going on?”
Mrs. Weasley began rubbing at her temples, annoyed. “It’s not up to your godfather or myself what we should tell you.” She eyed Sirius. “Don’t you remember what Dumbledore said? About only telling them what they need to know?”
“I’m not going to tell them more than what they need to know.” Sirius said. “But they were the ones who saw Voldemort come back. They have more than the right to-”
“They aren’t members of the Order of the Phoenix! They are teenagers-”
“And they’ve dealt with as much as us in the Order - even some more.” Sirius continued.
“They aren’t adults!” Mrs. Weasley protested. “They are-”
“Children?” Sirius answered darkly. “They are not children!”
“Well they certainly aren’t adults!” She protested. Mrs. Weasley gestured at Harry. “He is not James, Sirius!”
“You think I don’t know that?”
“I’m not sure you do.” She answered coldly. She turned to her husband. “Arthur! Back me up!”
Mr. Weasley set down his newspaper, looking tired. “Dumbledore did say, dear, that he expected Harry will have to be filled in to a certain extent since he’s been moved to headquarters. I suppose the same gesture should be extended to Anna, since she was also there.”
“Yes, but that shouldn’t mean they can feel free to ask whatever they want!”
Lupin finally chimed in. “Personally,” He began quietly, “I think it’s better that we give them some of the facts - just enough to get the general picture, rather than a distorted version from others.”
“We’re not innocent anymore, Mrs. Weasley.” Anna added softly. It was true - all of them, not just herself, had experienced life or death encounters. In the sense of protecting their innocence, it had already been stolen. “Whatever is going on, it’s not too horrible for us to take.”
While she hated doing something against Mrs. Weasley’s wishes, Anna needed to know what was going on - and if she needed to finally expose her secrets sooner or later.
Mrs. Weasley looked red in the face, but her voice was steady - like the calm before the storm. “I see I am not going to win this fight.”
She pointed upstairs - her hand shaking with her barely-concealed rage. “The rest of you - upstairs.”
“What?” They all exclaimed in outrage.
“Dear, Fred and George are of age.” Mr. Weasley reminded her.
“Fine. You two can stay. The rest of you - up.”
“But Mum!” Ron protested. “Harry is just going to tell us everything anyway - right Harry?”
“Of course.” He responded without missing a beat.
At this point, Mrs. Weasley was done.
“Fine! Ronald, Hermione - you may stay. Ginerva - go upstairs!”
“But Mum-”
“Now!”
Seeing as Mrs. Weasley was done compromising for the night, Ginny complained and screamed as she stomped up the stairs - awakening Mrs. Black’s noisy portrait as their combined shouts went throughout the house.
Sirius then sighed - looking them both in the eye. “Now...what do you want to know?”
