“You know Draco - you don’t have to treat me like this.”

“Like what?”

Anna groaned for the umpteenth time as she shouldered her satchel as they continued to walk down the Hogwarts halls to the gardens for an herbology assignment. “Like glass. I’m a strong girl - give me some credit here.”

“I do not treat you like glass.” He insisted, though at the same time, his hand went to steady her back as they began down the stone steps.

She simply raised an eyebrow.

“It’s called being a gentleman.”

Right.”

She didn’t bring it up again though, even when he steadied her for another flight of stairs, or when he would catch her arm every once in a while as they walked - his touch lingering a second longer than necessary.

Because those touches, she knew, went far more than he thinking she was fragile.

And as much as she wished she could return his advances, she knew it wouldn’t work out. Harry barely tolerated the two being friends. Also if you added Cedric’s death and Cho Chang into the mix, it just wasn’t the right time.

The question is, would it ever be?

She allowed herself a sigh as they arrived at the gardens, doing her best to avoid the thing only a few feet away. But it was hard to avoid a magnificent piece of glass artwork meant to be seen.

“Do you hate him?” His question came, all of a sudden. His brow twitched as he glanced back at her, waiting her answer.

“Yes.”

Anna’s answer was immediate, but lacked anger. If anything, it sounded dull - tired.

Anything dealing with him was exhausting these days.

Not wanting him to press on, she waved him over to the herbal section of the garden. “Come on - we still have this assignment to do, don’t we?”

Suddenly, Draco’s arm was around her waist, causing her to choke as he pulled her flush against him - so close that he was sure he could feel her racing heartbeat. “Draco - what-”

“I’m sorry, Anna.” He said lowly, pulling her in. “I know you don’t want to talk about it, but I know you’re hurting. And it’s okay to be affected by this. You don’t have to be so stoic all the time, you know? Not when you’re with me.”

And although Anna wanted to fight him on this tooth and nail, there, wrapped up securely in his arms, she could only relax into his embrace.

Because it was nice to feel safe once in a little while.

“I didn’t know that you and Malfoy were a thing,” Cho said, causing Anna to slip-up her Expelliarmus and the girl’s spell to cause her to fly into one of the mats behind her.

Anna cursed underneath her breath as she got up.

Of course Harry had to pair her with the one girl in the class that she wouldn’t mind choking to death.

“Of course, I didn’t know he was into your type, but kudos to you for finding someone willing to actually date you.”

Anna flicked her wand with more force than necessary the next round, sick pleasure warming her chest as it was Cho’s turn to fly back into the mats on her end of the room. “Shove off. Draco and I are not 'a thing'. As I am not constantly seeking men like you are.”

Like stop trying to seduce my own bloody brother.

“Says the one who started dating in her first year.” Cho pointed out.

Anna scowled. “I was naive. But at least I didn’t lie to someone’s face and cheat with their significant other, so I’m still one up on you.”

Cho narrowed her eyes. “You and Ced might’ve been dating when we got together, but there’s a difference. He actually loved me.”

“Sure.”

Why the bloody hell was this girl so delusional?

Another clash of spells.

Cho scoffed. “Of course you wouldn’t understand. You’re too young.”

Does it look like I give a flying-”

“ENOUGH!”

Before Anna could put her lessons with Tonks to use, Ginny had gotten between them.

Though Ginny had broken up the fight, the glare she currently sported told her that she was 100% on Anna’s side. “Cho. You should go elsewhere. We’re done for today.”

Cho’s nostrils flared, but she only sniffed as she tossed her hair and stalked off to her group of friends on the other side of the room.

“Gee. Some prick.” Ginny scowled from where they stood.

“Yeah.”

But Anna knew the look in Cho's eye - hell, she had worn it several times herself.

Cho was angry - and she wouldn't stop until she was satisfied with whatever wrath she could manage to wrought.
