The delicious smell of sizzling meat over a charcoal flame filled the room as you continued flip the small slabs periodically, whilst waiting for the the pot filled with the rice, which you were going make botamochi (ohagi) with, get hot.

It sure has been a while since you'd last cooked for Sanemi. You always loved seeing the delighted look on his handsomely scarred face whenever he ate your cooking.

You couldn't help but slightly frowned at the memory, remembering all the times you and him would meet up in secret, rather it'd be an inn or his home.

Around you, Sanemi didn't have to keep up his tough and infallible facade. He may often come off as angry and mean, but beneath all of that crust you saw a sweet, loveable, and gentle hearted soul.

And that's what you loved about him. You knew of all the emotional turmoil and heartaches he's been through; losing the people he'd loved and cherished.

He spent the majority of his life getting strong so that he could protect people he didn't want to go through what he has been through. Not only for himself, but for his family, and mainly.. for Genya!

And you'd became his constant source of support. Although, you still regretted leaving him. If only you could tell him the truth, would he even believe you?

It had been a foolish mistake on your part, you shouldn't have let your emotions get the better of you.

The situation had indeed been embarrassing, but you had no one to blame but yourself.

Poor Genya didn't know!

"Know what?"

You nearly shrieked upon hearing the younger Shinazugawa voice from behind you as you turned to see the mohawk headed boy standing in the door frame.

"Kami-sama, Genya! Don't do that...you're a sneaky one, aren't you?" You say, calming your beating heart.

The younger boy quickly went stiff, his face going completely red. He must've not meant to speak out loud, implying that he had been silently observing you, before hearing you speak your own thoughts out loud.

Sanemi told you how shy Genya was when it came to women, often shuddering and tripping over his own two feet like a clumsy fool, which is why the teenager would never say anything or even move when in the presence of girls.

Strange how puberty can change someone?

You kindly smiled towards him, noticing how his eyes kept glancing back and forth towards the grill. You saw his Adam's apple bob, clearly swallowing the amount of saliva that gathered in his mouth.

Aww, poor Genya is hungry, you thought as you carefully took a pair of chopsticks and grabbed a small strip of barbecue meat.

"Here Gen, you wanna taste?" You asked, voice dripping with honey-coated sweetness, whilst holding it out for him to eat.

The younger Shinazugawa's eyes practically shined as if he saw the most amazing thing in the universe and you tried not to laugh when he caustically approached you like a timid kitten. His sharp eyes watching you like a hawk in case you try anything funny.

"It's ok, Gen...I'm not gonna hurt you." You reassured, speaking like a mother to her child.

And Genya couldn't help but believe you.
