CHAPTER 29 [M]
STAY THE NIGHTLUISA EVERYTHING BUT THREW HERSELF into Torrey's arms once she saw her once again. It was only hours since they had separated, but it felt like so long ago, especially after that very much confusing and not any less exhausting encounter she had with Polly.
"Hey," Torrey laughed returning the embrace, and then pulling back, she regarded her curiously, "Is everything okay?"
She didn't want to delve into what had happened so soon and so she just shook her head, deciding they would talk about it later. She should also probably tell Torrey about the audio Polly had sent her.
To Torrey, Luisa just smiled, "I'm just happy to see you,"
"O-kay,"
Luisa could tell she wasn't really convinced with her answer but was glad when she didn't press for a different answer.
"The cab should be here any minute," she informed Torrey, and then pointed at the single bag on her shoulder—the same bag she had brought with her during their short adventure earlier that day, "Is that all your bags?"
Torrey shrugged, "Yeah. I didn't need much,"
Luisa didn't think she packed much either but still she had two full bags. Torrey looked like she was barely carrying anything. Luisa figured she probably wouldn't even have a proper bag and opted for a small purse if not for her precious camera.
"Is your mother not here?"
She shook her head in response, "Apparently she had to go meet someone," Luisa lifted her shoulders, pursing her lips to one corner, "She is not exactly a very involved person in my life—unless it has something to do with her,"
"My mother used to be like that too,"
"Who—Katie?" Luisa turned to her surprised. Katie was one of the most caring and loving people she knew.
Torrey grimaced, nodding and then taking a deep breath, she continued, "She used to drink. A lot. Growing up, I rarely saw her—she'd either be out drinking or passed out. My dad was the one who pretty much looked after everything. He got sick of it, I guess. He left. That was sort of a wake up call for her. She really changed after that,"
"Wow," the word left Luisa's lips without her being aware of it and she quickly slapped a hand to her mouth embarrassed, "I'm sorry. I mean... I just always thought of Katie as this bubbly persona and, well you really can't tell about a person by just seeing them, can you?"
"Nope," Torrey laughed, and then shook her head, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to dump all that on you,"
"Hey," Luisa nudged her shoulder against hers, "It's fine. We'll just take turns dumping on each other. What else girlfriends are really for then?"
Smirking, Torrey snaked her hand around Luisa's waist, pulling her close, "I can think of a few other answers,"
Luisa's phone pinged right then, just as a car pulled up in front of them, "Ooh, the cab's here," she said, untangling herself from the taller woman's hold, "Perfect timing, let's go,"

Torrey fell asleep by the time they reached into the city, her head comfortably nuzzled against Luisa's neck, snoring lightly. Luisa nudged her awake once the cab came to a stop, "Hey, we're here,"
