CHAPTER 9
DRUNKEN TEXTS

LUISA COULDN'T TAKE NOT THINKING about what she had texted Torrey—well by not thinking she had only ended up thinking more and more about it so it had been a pointless venture if anything and finally gave in.

She was able to recall some of the memories from the night, so she was aware what had prompted her to text back Torrey after all. For some reason, everywhere Luisa had looked around her, there had been couples—dancing together, drinking together, laughing together, talking together, just everything together and it just made her feel... alone.

There was that feeling again, she noted with a sense of bafflement. Alone.

That was weird. As it had already been established, she actually liked being alone and had never really paid attention to that all that much before. But suddenly it just became extremely apparent to her that she was alone. Blake, the one who had forced her to go the bar in the first place, had abandoned her to go dancing with some of their colleagues and the ones at that remained at the table were busy talking to people they had met. Luisa didn't particularly feel like participating.

Luisa wasn't mad at Blake or anything—it wasn't like she was customised to stay by her side all night long. She had brought her out to hang out, relax—as she'd said, but Luisa just couldn't. Not even when she was drunk. She didn't mind the talking as much anymore since she was inebriated, but still she just couldn't find it in herself to actually bother holding up a conversation.

Swirling the remaining drink in her hand, she took out her phone, and her intoxicated self just had weird way of thinking, Luisa gathered. She hadn't even hesitated a second and had started texting her. It turned out Torrey had been available at the time as well because she had replied her in an instant and then even attended the call.

Pressing a hand to her forehead, Luisa sighed, returning her focus to the present. Unlocking her phone, she opened the app and decided she would read through their messages—that was the part she was not able to recall: what they had texted and talked about

@torrey.ots
Hey
It's Torrey

@luisa_rr
heyyyyyyyy

hiiiiiii

Luisa cringed internally, shaking her head and cursing herself under her breath. That was only the beginning and it was already bad, she couldn't even begin imagine how the rest of the texts were—well she didn't have to imagine, she just had to muster enough courage to read them through.

Luisa checked the timestamp. Torrey's reply had been immediate, confirming her somewhat muddy memory.

@torrey.ots
Hey again
Yeah, I found you.

And that's when Luisa had called her, "Jesus," Luisa dropped her phone on the couch and rubbed her face, letting out a long, weary sigh. That was definitely unbelievably stupid of her, she actually wanted to choke herself to death.
