CHAPTER 34
STAYTHEY ENDED UP ORDERING IN once again after all. This time they went with sushi.
"You know what," Luisa said mid-bite, "I'm thinking you don't really know how to cook. And you're just using it as a reason to sneak in and get laid,"
Torrey choked on her food, and started coughing. Stifling a laugh, Luisa passed her a glass of water.
"You really are a witch," Torrey pointed a finger at her accusingly once she was settled down.
Luisa shrugged nonchalantly.
Torrey was secretly glad though. She remembered when Luisa a couple weeks ago, who was so nervous around her and got so easily embarrassed by almost everything she said and did. She was way much more comfortable around her now, and her true self was shining through, and Torrey wanted nothing less than that.
After they were done with their dinner, she let one of her hands comb through Luisa's curls, and the latter smiled at her in return, leaning closer. Torrey hated herself for ever thinking that she could go on without this woman by her side.
"I'm sorry," she said, and Luisa turned to her an eyebrow raised.
"What for?"
"For ignoring you the past couple of days,"
Luisa nodded, a discerning smile on her face, "You can talk about it if you want,"
She dropped her hand to her sides, leaning her head against the back of the couch, "Insecurities," she huffed.
Luisa placed her chin on her shoulder, not saying anything. She knew she had more to say and so she waited.
"I feel like all my life I've always been looked over, left behind; never been anyone's first choice. I have worked hard to leave all that behind and build myself up to be confident, and I am bolder and sure-footed now, but... sometimes it just sneaks up on you, you know," she cocked her head to the side a little, knocking her cheek against Luisa's forehead, "And you... if you didn't already know, I kinda like you a little too much,"
She laughed winding their hands together, bringing them to her lap, "It is still surreal to me that you like me back,"
Luisa pulled back, ready to retort, but Torrey cut her off, "You are amazing through and through, accept it and let me speak,"
She huffed and resumed her initial position, leaning against her girlfriend, letting Torrey continue, "I didn't mean to keep things from you, but... it's just I got insecure, especially with Polly being involved. And I don't know, maybe it's stupid, but I felt like there was a possibility that you might choose her over me, and I didn't want to risk it,"
"Did you forget the part where I told her that she sucked at her own wedding?"
Torrey laughed at that, "Yeah, I should have kept that in mind," she sighed, "And then I avoided you, because I thought you might choose her and..... ugh, it's just stupid," she pressed her palms to her eyes, groaning.
Luisa pulled her hands away and directed her gaze towards her, and flicked her forehead once she held her attention.
"Ow," Torrey moved back, rubbing the spot where she'd hit her.
"Stop saying 'it's stupid'. It really is not. I get it, okay," she brushed a hand against her cheek, "We all have our own insecurities, and even though it might seem little, and insignificant or stupid, we still have them. Even the most confident person,"
