Ashton: age 6

Luke: age 5

One Thursday afternoon, Andrew Hemmings decided to take his youngest son Luke to the local park while his mum is at work and his brothers are at camp.

"Daddy I'm going to play over there" Luke said pointing at the monkey bars.

"OK son, be careful" his dad warned.

Andrew sits on a bench nearby and a woman approaches him, "Hello, I'm Anne Marie Irwin and this is my son Ashton, he doesn't know a lot of kids here and we just moved, I was wondering if he could play with your son?" she asked.

"Of course, I'm Andrew Hemmings, Luke is right over there" Andrew points to Luke who's just swinging on one of the bars.

"Thank you so much, go on Ash" she tells her son and Ashton walks towards a small blonde boy and is immediately captivated by his deep blue eyes.

"Hi I'm Ashton, my mummy wanted me to play with you, we just moved here" Ashton said shyly. Luke smiles wide at the shy boy in front of him. "I'm Luke, don't be shy I don't have friends so maybe we can be best friends?" he asked and Ashton grins nodding in agreement.

"You have dimples! That's cool" Luke says poking his dimples. The boys immediately become friends laughing and telling jokes that aren't really funny, but to them their hilarious.

"Luke its time to go!" he hears his dad calling him and he frowns and turns to Ashton who has a similar facial expression.

"Aw c'mon no pouts, you know what Anne, how about I give you my number and maybe the boys can have a sleepover this weekend, if its ok with your husband and my wife of course" Andrew asks and Anne agrees and both boys cheer in joy.

"I had fun Ash, thanks for being my friend" Luke said and Ashton smiled and gave him a hug. "Of course Luke, see you later!" he yelled while running up to his mum. "Bye Ashton!" he called out and held his dads hand as they went into their car.

When he's all strapped in to his car seat, his dad starts the car and at the first light he looks to his left at the car next to him and sees Ash through his window in his car seat. Ashton looks at Luke and waves and his mum drives off. Luke sighs in content knowing this had to be the best day ever.

Because he met Ashton Irwin.
