Bruno traveled to Washington to finish up the last few shows on his tour. I decided to stay home since I had an interview for a job I had been dreaming of. My interview went really well and the clinic's manager said he would be calling me back to let me know the verdict after they finished all the interviews this week. I had my fingers crossed and my candles lit for this opportunity. Jen laughed when she came over that afternoon. "Girl it looks like a Mexican market in here with all your saint candles." She laughed as she leaned in to look closer at the saint. "Hey now...you how us Catholic Mexicans love our candles. Kind of like how you pray to that damn snickers saint of yours." I replied with a smirk. " Snickers and Pepsi" she giggled. "Blow these out already...let's go shopping." She continued as she finished off her Pepsi. "I hate shopping. Can we just take G for a walk?" I groaned dragging my feet over to the other side of the kitchen. "Basic ass boring bitch." She joked. "Yeah yeah miss high maintenance. You know I'm not about all that shit." I fired back.
"Well you should be. You have a banging bod, pretty hair, and just look at that face just begging for some MAC love." She cooed. I rolled my eyes stuck my tongue out at her. "Come on let's go get free makeovers at the mall. Just like old times when we lived in Colorado and were bored out of our minds....please." she pouted. "Ugh okay." I sighed. How we were best friends was beyond me. She was pretty and so fashionable, super confident and loved being out and about. I was the total opposite. Loved my jeans and t-shirts. Not a fan of makeup and forget being out in public, I'd rather stay home and work on crafts or cook. We just balanced eachother out I guess. So off to the mall we went.
A week later I was curled up on the couch face timing Bruno when he lost service driving in the middle of nowhere. After a few unsuccessful attempts I had no luck reaching him. So I figured he call back once he was near civilation. I was sleeping when I heard my phone ring. *ring ring*
Me: Hello
Caller: Can I speak to Laura
Me: This is she
Caller: Hi I'm calling from Studio City Orthopedic and Athletic Clinic. I was just extending the offer for the position you interviewed. If you accept the pay rate is $56.50 an hour, some weekends required and if possible a starting date of tomorrow.
Me: Awesome, yes I accept. Thank you.
Caller: Great. We'll see you tomorrow at 7 o'clock.
The morning I hit the ground running. I felt like a kid on their first day of school. I couldn't help but wonder who my clients would be, lots of professional athletes go there for therapy. After walking G around the neighborhood and cleaning up my breakfast mess, I headed out the door. Bruno called while I was driving just to say good luck. He's such a sweetheart. I wished it was a longer conversation because I hated driving in California and his sweet voice made me not hate traffic so much.
When I arrived at work I was greeted by the guy who was my new boss. He was very good looking. About 5'8", strong muscular build, caramel skin, a smile that would make anyone go gaga, a seedy 5 o'clock shadow, and his laugh that just captured your attention and made you want to know now about him. He was very much eye candy.
My first day was so much fun. I really missed working and helping people get back to doing things they loved. I couldn't wait to tell Bruno all about my day. I waited up until almost midnight and he didn't call. I assumed he was busy and went to bed.
The next morning I was halfway to work when I called Bruno...still no answer. He must have had a long night I thought to myself. After work I text Bruno hey baby I know you're busy but I just wanted to say I love you.
He quickly replied love you too.
That night I went to dinner with my new coworkers. Everyone looked so nice dressed up. I loved my job but I truly hated wearing khaki pants and polo shirts. I sat at the table trying to make small talk with all these strangers who I'd only known for 2 days. About 45 minutes into dinner my boss Nate showed up looking and smelling amazing. "Hello everyone. Sorry I'm late. My date had some wardrobe issues so she'll be joining us shortly." He said looking around at everyone there. There was an open seat next to me and he took it asking the server for an extra chair and setting. Ten minutes later his date showed up. I turned to greet her and about died. How the hell was I supposed to have dinner with her sitting next to me. I had to think of an excuse and I had to do it quickly. "Jessica this is my team of therapists. They each specialize in certain body parts. They're all awesome." He said all he introduced her each of us to her. "This is Abdullah, he's my shoulder guy. Chad my hand specialist. Becca my hip guru. Mo works his magic with kinesio tape. Kayla the spine goddess. Sara and Tina are my muscle gals. Laura who just started yesterday is my knee and ankle specialist. And last but not least Melissa who is my certified athletic trainer. Group this is Jessica my lovely girlfriend. "
"Nice to meet you all. I can't wait to start working with you guys. You did tell them right baby?" She said, I think my heart stopped as the words rolled off her tongue. "Uh not yet but I guess I will now. Jessica is going to be our new secretary. " he proudly stated. Fuck! My life is gonna suck. I thought to myself as I forced a smile. My dream job just turned into a fucking nightmare.
