12. Getaway

"So baby, whatcha wanna do for your birthday?" Bruno asked.

"I just wanna spend it in your arms." I replied as I gave him a big hug. 

"I gotchu.  Its gonna be epic!" He said as he walked me to the door. 

I got into his car and drove to work, Dirty Diana blasting through the speakers.   I can't wait to see Diane. I miss having some friends around. I thought to myself as I pulled into the parking garage at the hospital. 

"Good morning guys.  Is it looking like a crazy busy day?" I asked as I clocked in.

"Nope.  It's never busy on Mondays.  You only have treatments until noon."  Said a coworker as she looked at the schedule. 

" Awesome!" I replied as I grabbed my clipboard and schedule.

"So do you have any plans with your boy to this weekend?" Questioned Marilyn.

She was my closest friend from work since Diane had left.

"Well its my birthday tomorrow.  Diane is flying in tomorrow morning and were just going to have some drinks and dinner probably.  Nothing wild and crazy.  Join us....I'll text you the time once I find out." I said as I  walked out of the office headed for my destination on the 6th floor.

Bruno's POV

"Ok thanks Brandon.  Yeah definitely go with red.  She loves red.  I gotchu.   Peace" I said as I looked for my keys.

I had to get to her work after she did but before she went to lunch.  Where the hell are my keys?  I though as I threw the accent pillows off the couch.

" Hey bruddah you looking for these? " Ryan said as he tossed me my keys.

"Where were they? I thought I was gonna have to turn this place upside down." I laughed

" I moved your car.  Had to make room for da truck remember.  Party rental." He replied.

"Oh shit they delivering it today? Brandon didn't  tell me that." I said as I scratched my head.

"Is that a problem bruh?" He questioned with a confused look.

"She doesn't know about the party!  It's ok. I have an idea.  So I'm going to meet her after work.  I'll take her outta town.  You guys get the party set up and well be back around 2 tomorrow.....oh and can you pick up Diane from the airport too.  She arrives at 9am. Frontier Airlines.  Thanks man." I said as I headed out the door.

I arrived at the hospital and headed to her office.  "Hey guys. Is Laura around?" I asked 3 ladies that were standing at the fax machine.

"Uh umm oh um no she's on the 6th floor.  Do you want me to page her?" Said one of the ladies,  clearly blushing from my presence. 

"No no don't tell her I came by.  Here is an invite to her birthday party tomorrow.  It's a surprise so shhhh." I said as I handed them a card with party details.

"Oh ok.  Thanks." Replied another coworker.

I made it out of the hospital without  being caught by Laura.  Once home I packed an overnight bag for us both.  Some of her clothes was still in boxes from when she moved in after my accident.  I left a note for Ryan with Diane's flight number and some instructions.  I wasn't  sure I'd be home with all the running around I had to get done before she got off work.   The party rental people were setting up tables in the back yard transforming it into a red outdoor club.  Ryan ran into the house as I  was leaving and let me know he would hold down the fort and it would be perfect when we got back tomorrow.
