It had been 3 days since Bruno was in the accident.   The swelling in his arm was finally starting to go down so he was able to be casted.   He was also doing much better medically and transferred out of ICU.   I felt better about him being alone during the day since Jessica hadn't been back since that first day.

I was super busy today with meetings and treatments that I didn't have time to stop by and day hi.   I have to stop by before I had home.  I told myself as I stepped into the elevator.

"Fancy seeing you here." A very familiar voice said.

I looked up from my clipboard and gasped as I saw Jessica standing against the opposite wall.

"What are you doing here?" I snapped.

"Oh you know just making some visits. " she replied with a smirk on her face.

The elevator door opened and I quickly got off.  I contemplated skipping this meeting and going straight to Bruno's room.  If I miss this meeting I could totally get fired but if I don't check on Bruno his life could be in danger. I thought to myself.  After hesitation I went down the hall and entered a big conference room.   About 10 minutes into the meeting an overhead page went off RAPID RESPONSE 5 EAST ROOM 78.  RAPID RESPONSE 5 EAST ROOM 78.

My heart stopped as I jumped up.  "I gotta go. "  I said as I ran out of the room.

I ran up 3 flights of stairs and made my to room 78.  "What's going on?  I asked one of the nurses who was standing outside the room.  "He was fine and after he finished his lunch he complained of chest pain and stopped breathing. " she replied.

I felt like I had vertigo and the walls were closing in on me.  I know that bitch Jessica had something to do with it.  I thought to myself.

Eric came over and hugged me tightly. "I was with him and he was fine one minute and then he got really pale and sweaty.  He grabbed his chest and stopped breathing.  He was supposed to go home today. " Eric cried.

" Peter open your eyes, look here follow my pen.  Peter can you tell me where you are? "  a nurse asked as Bruno was coming back to consciousness.

"What's going on? Eric! Pop! Yo where's my family? "  Bruno asked frantically.

"Bruddha I'm right here.   You passed out.  But your okay now." Eric responded.

They monitored Bruno closely the rest of the day, ran multiple tests, and didn't allow him out of bed.    After my shift I went to Bruno's room and sat quietly at his side as he slept.  I had a gut feeling Jessica had something to do with his episode but I didn't know how exactly since Eric said he was with him and never mentioned her.  Bruno woke up and grabbed my hand, "Hey baby....I'm glad you're here.  I don't know what's happening to me. " he whispered.

"Don't worry Bruno, you're in good hands here.  Everything will be okay." I replied as I leaned in to kiss his forehead.

"Don't leave me alone.   Please stay the night, please.  Please just say with me." He begged.

"I will.  But I need to make a call so I'm just going to step out of the room." I replied.

I called Diane and asked her to bring me some clean work clothes in the morning.

I went back into the room and Bruno was sleeping soundly.   I hated seeing him like this.   His lips were dry and cracking, his hair was starting to look matted, and his skin was ashy.  I grabbed the bottle of baby lotion that was on his counter and massaged some into his hands. He smiled as he opened his eyes.  "Thank you. " he mouthed.

"Bruno I'm not going to let anything happen to you.   If I have to spend the rest of my time in L.A. with you every second I'm not at work,  I will. " I said.

"Is that a promise or a threat?" He giggled.

We must have fallen asleep because I woke up at 5 am by a phlebotomist knocking on the door.  She came in and drew Bruno's blood and quietly left the room.

6:30 am came way to fast. "Bruno I gotta go work.  I'll be back later today." I said as I stretched just before untangling myself from the chair I slept in.  "Ok.  Don't work too hard. " he said as he cracked a half smile.

I met Diane in the hospital gym, "thanks for bringing me clothes and breakfast. "

I quickly showered got ready for work.

I ran into Eric at the hospital cafe on my lunch break.

"Hey Eric.  How's it going?" I asked.

"Hey!   He's doing good today.  He's been joking all morning.   My sisters are flying in from Hawaii tonight so they will be around to help.   Doctor said he could go home today" he replied.

"That's great.   If you need anything don't hesitate to shoot me a text.  I can't answer calls but I'll see your text between treatments.  Plus I'm not too busy today." I said.

"Absolutely.   Hey after work come by his room if we are still here.   I'll text you when we leave if it's before the end of your day. " he replied as he hugged me.

"Okay I'll see you..." I was interrupted buy the overhead system :RAPID RESPONSE 5 EAST ROOM 78.  RAPID RESPONSE 5 EAST ROOM 78.

Eric and I ran to the nearest elevator and headed back to Bruno's room.

"Mr. Hernandez take deep breaths.  Stay calm.  Focus on your breathing. "  the nurse ordered.

He was struggling to maintain his oxygen saturation above 90%.   His lips looked blue and the fear in his eyes was like daggers in my heart.
What is going on?  Why is this happening?  How could he be fine one minute and fighting for his life the next? I thought to myself.

His oxygen stabilized and Bruno was back to normal within the hour.   The nurses and doctors couldn't figure out what was causing these episodes.  All the tests are coming back negative.

"What's going on? Someone better find some answers! " Eric yelled in desperation.
