SEVEN'S POV
"Sara, hey, what's wrong?"
Those are the last words I remember, of someone actually being concerned for me. I remember him reading to me, whilst I lay in my hospital bed. Him. I can't remember him, in fact, I don't remember much from my old life.
I've been living here, in Hawkins National Laboratory for almost 4 years from what I can tell, although, mind you... I may not be 100% accurate. I do, however, remember that I spent the eighth year of my life, constantly in cars, traveling from laboratory to laboratory, before finally staying at Hawkins National Laboratory, Hawkins Lab for short.
That means that 5 years ago, by my calculations, was when I was taken from my family; my home.
I remember 2 people standing at the end of my hospital bed, hugging each other, whilst doctors were scurrying all around me. After that, everything went blurry and I fell asleep. Although, I do remember a man with a tall face and white hair stealthily sticking a syringe into my shoulder, almost as if he didn't want anyone to see.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Why was I in the hospital to begin with? Well, one day, I was at the park with... well honestly I've forgotten. I was playing with someone, and all of a sudden everything turned cold. All the walls and floors turned dark, covered now with a slimy substance... vines. Everything was cold, almost like I was in another dimension... but that's impossible, right?
I looked around, slightly panicking. There was no one in sight, just me.
After a few seconds of being in this world, I snapped back into reality to hear him trying to calm my breathing. "Deep breaths, deep breaths." he soothed, a concerned look planted on his face.
I can't remember what he looks like, no matter how hard I try. Brown hair? Possibly, but as I said earlier, I can't be 100% sure.
After this incident, I was taken to the hospital. I explained what I saw to a tall-faced man with white hair, and yes that's the man that in the future, does stick a syringe into my shoulder. We talked for a while before he decided I had cancer... I mean... honestly, it was a bit hard to believe seeing as I felt fine. I don't know much about medical stuff, but I guess I should trust this guy. He is a doctor after all.
Back to what I was saying earlier; after I passed out in my hospital bed and woke up, I was in the backseat of a black car. I was confused, I mean, who wouldn't be? I'm in a car, with nobody I know except for... the tall-faced man with white hair? Seriously, at the time I just thought it was a coincidence that I kept seeing this guy, but I was seriously mistaken.
"Ah, I see you're awake Seven. Seven is your new name, and you can call me Papa," he spoke, looking at me through the rearview mirror whilst we waited at a red traffic light. I can't recall this conversation word for word, but I do know that for some reason I argued, saying that he wasn't my father. It was from that point on, that I never trusted him again.
If you haven't already guessed, that man's name is Dr. Brenner. He's been doing experiments on and with me for the past 4 years. He said that I have special abilities... something that normal people don't have. And, actually, I didn't believe him until quite recently. About 2 years ago, when I was 10, what he said had a tad bit of truth.
I was in a sensory deprivation tank, and like always, I appeared to be in a black room with a shallow layer of water at my feet. Although, this time I could see a figure sitting on a chair, concentrating very hard on something. They were wearing a hospital gown, the ones I had to wear.
Their head was shaved like mine should have been. You see, during my time at the hospital, not laboratory, hospital, my head was shaved for 'chemotherapy', even though I wasn't even sick. Since then, my hair has grown down to a bit past my shoulders.
Anyways, I'm getting ahead of myself. Back to what I was saying; their head was shaved. I looked at their wrist to see 011. I had a number as well, only mine was 007. After a few minutes, some guards dragged her out of the room she was in, walking through halls. I'm pretty sure this was a girl. Even though her hair was shaved, she was pretty, and I honestly felt bad that she was being treated the same way I was. I knew that I was forced to do things I didn't want to do and that meant she was too.
After a minute or so of being dragged and carried around, 011 was put in a room. I could see a white mist appearing, and then starting to take the form of a room.
A bedroom.
It was identical to mine, except she had a basic stick-figure drawing hung up in her room. She stayed still for a while, just sitting on her bed, her head in her hands.
"Hi..." I say slowly, being careful not to startle her.
She looked up in my direction, a confused look on her face. She then proceeds to close her eyes before re-opening them a few seconds later, now standing up and facing me.
She didn't speak, and I'm not surprised. I try to get her to talk for a while and eventually she cracks and tells me her name. "Eleven" she whispers, pointing to herself. Eventually, we talk; and if I'm being honest our conversation was a tad awkward at first, but when she got a bit more comfortable around me, she went on to talk about her powers and how I might be able to access mine.
"Just focus on creating an energy, think about it, and imagine it," she says, her voice soft as water droplets.
So, I did just that.
I close my eyes and re-open them to see a small blue flame in my hand.
"Woahh..." I whisper, staring in awe at the little blue flame in my palm.
"Does it burn?" Eleven asks as her eyes glimmer with the blue glow from my flame.
"No... it... it feels calming. A bit tiring though," I replied, still dazed by the mesmerizing flame.
"Oh. Try and do something with it," she instructs, guiding me cautiously.
I closed my eyes again, imagining a blue, fire-like butterfly flying off my fingers and swiftly curving and waving around me and Eleven, then returning to my pointer finger. As soon as I opened my eyes, a small blue glow appeared in my palm, starting to take shape of a butterfly. Then, it proceeded to do exactly what I wanted it to do, dancing around Eleven and myself.
For the next 2 years, I continued to expand my powers with Dr. Brenner during the day and Eleven during the night in my dreams. We got to see each other most nights at around 1 am in our dreams. We would always talk and we bonded quite well. Our nicknames for each other were El for Eleven, and Sev, for Seven.
She didn't know much about the real world, outside of lab experiments. I taught her all I knew about Space, Science, and all of my favorite school subjects.
Thanks for reading the first chapter to 'A Different Point of View'. :)
