MIKE'S POV

"How was I supposed to know it was going to take 10 hours?" I asked, groaning because I knew she would make me go to bed anyway.

"You've been playing for 10 hours?" Mom asked, shock written all over her face.

"I-... Dad, don't you think I should have a little longer?"

"I think you should listen to your mother," he responds. Why does he always say that

Ugh

I ran down the stairs to my basement where everyone was packing up and Dustin offered everyone the last slice of pizza. After getting everything ready to leave, Lucas, Dustin, and Will all left on their bikes, pedaling down the street and into the night.

I sighed and walked back into the house, closing the garage door on the way back inside.

WILL'S POV

"I'll take your X-Men 134!" I shouted, grinning at the thought of beating Dustin in a race. Dustin pulls into his driveway and I keep riding down the road, to Mirkwood. I pedaled in silence when suddenly my bike lights flicker. I looked down at it and thought, huh, that's weird. I looked back up to see a dark figure appear in front of me on the road. I swerved off of the road onto the grass. That was probably just my imagination... or maybe just someone crossing the road... but here? at Mirkwood? That doesn't make sense... I looked up in front of me and see the dark figure walking towards me.

I panicked and stood up, now running the rest of the way to my house. I shakily unlock the door with my spare key and go inside.

"Mom?! Jonathan?!" I cry out, hoping to hear someone answer. After earning no response, I make my way to the window and move the curtain so I can peer out and see if the thing was following me. Sure is... this made me whimper and I ran to the phone and hurriedly dial 9-9-1. I find myself staring at the door when I saw a shadow through the glass. I feel... not safe exactly, but a small hint of relief knowing that the door was locked. However, that small feeling disappeared when I saw the door start to unlock... from the outside.

I dropped the phone in shock and ran outside to our shed. I quickly loaded a rifle, hoping that it may stop whatever this thing was.

After a few seconds, I hear a low growling sound behind me. I slowly turn around and see it. This thing. The only light in the room started to blare brighter and brighter before... coldness.

SEVEN'S POV

"El, let's try and find some clothes," I suggest, motioning towards a small house near us. She slowly nodded and we walked up to the house together. I walked up onto their porch and took a look around.

Perfect. Just what I need.

There were 2 oversized t-shirts, a stained pair of jeans, and some loose shorts hanging over the porch railing. I grabbed some of the clothes, handing them to El. She gratefully took the yellow shirt and the pair of shorts and quietly slipped them into them whilst I get changed into my stained mom jeans and black, oversized tee.

After getting changed into these more comfortable clothes, El and I made our way back down to our little shelter. We haven't eaten in the past 14 hours, and we were starting to get quite a bit hungry. We usually had an early breakfast and a late dinner, so we were used to not eating for 14 hours.

I decided to wander a bit, just to get a feel for the area. El stayed behind, sitting under the log; trying to keep warm and out of the harsh, chilly winds.

I usually had my hair out at the lab, Dr. Brenner insisted that I shave it, but I refused. If my hair was any longer, he probably would have forced me to shave my head. Currently, it's about halfway between my elbow and shoulder.

Anyhow, continuing.

I continued hiking through the woods, looking here and there for a house or somewhere to take refuge. I made sure that every few meters I dragged my feet in the dirt, creating a trail for me to travel back to El at any time I needed.

After what seemed to be an hour or so of tracking through dried-up shrubs and dead trees, a small house came into view. It looked abandoned, really quite small. I decided to take a look around to see if it really was abandoned.

If it was, El and I could stay there. It would be much warmer than under a log that only covered half of our bodies. There was a light drizzle as I made my way up to the porch and into the house.

Yep! Definitely abandoned! It was filthy, and might I add, really quite messy. Boxes were lying around everywhere."New York... Jim... Sara..." I muttered under my breath, reading the labels written with a sharpie. I didn't recognize any of the names... apart from Sara. I had heard it somewhere before.

Oh yeah, now I remember. Someone said it. I'm not sure if it was to me, or if I just overheard it. Probably just a coincidence though.

I continued to look around, seeing more and more boxes. After about 40 minutes of moving things here and there, there was a loud pounding on the roof. I panicked, looking for somewhere to hide. I opened what looked to be like a trap door to a basement. It was a small basement, but it'll do.

There are even more boxes, labeled with random stuff like Diane and Indiana. I knew what Indiana meant. That's where I was, the state or something. I knew this because I remembered it from my early life. I'm pretty sure I've been here before.

Indiana.

I think I have, but I can't be certain.

But now's not the time to think about that. Someone... or something, was walking on the roof. Wait, no. That doesn't quite make sense. My mind quickly drifted to the fact that it was drizzling before I entered the small cabin. How could I really be so stupid? It's raining, and quite heavily might I add.

I rushed out of the basement, through the front door, and onto the porch.

"DAMMIT!" I yell, annoyed at my mistake. The trail I had made to find my way back to El was gone, the rain must have washed it away. I wasn't concerned for myself though, I was concerned for El. She was all alone, and not to mention probably freezing to death in the cold rain.

You have to understand, the log we were kind of taking shelter under didn't cover us very well. It all depended on what way the rain was falling. If it fell the wrong way, the log wouldn't cover us at all, exposing us. I couldn't tell what direction the rain would be falling for El, because as I said, I had completely lost my way and sense of direction.

I sighed and knew that there was no point venturing out to find El. I would have to wait until it stopped raining, which by the looks of it, wouldn't be for quite a while. I went back inside, still dry from being under the porch, and took a few blankets out of some boxes. I laid them down on a dusty and ripped couch and snuggled in. The blankets were quite dusty but other than that, they were reasonably clean.

I drifted off into a deep sleep, being calmed by the pounding of rain against the fragile frame of the cabin. After some cleaning up, this place would be seriously good for staying in. Even though it was old and run down, the cabin seemed to be built well, meaning it would stay warm in Winter. Well, warm enough to stay comfortable.

I tried to talk to El in my dream, but couldn't find her. I wasn't surprised. From what I could tell, we were quite far away from each other. Maybe in the future, I could try to learn how to be able to talk to people over further distances. That would be cool.

For now, though, I continued with my sleep, getting a very needed and well-deserved rest.
