THE FOUR SAT IN A CARRIAGE WITH The Conductor, travelling through Novokribirsk towards where the fold was.

"I didn't hire you simply to get us across the fold, you're with us because you smuggle Grisha out of the Little Palace and thats the location of out target," Kaz stated.

He was seated next to Aurora with the Conductor, Jesper and Inej on the other side of the carriage. The two blocked him in just in case he tried to escape.

"Sun summoner," Inej said and Kaz just ignored her, "They wouldn't keep a fraud in the most secure location in all of Ravka,"

"You said you had a contact who can get us inside, a heartrender," Aurora said to the Conductor, breaking up Inej and Kaz's argument about faith.

"Nina grew up there," The Conductor said, looking at the two.

"Most Grisha grew up in the Little Palace," she replied, a challenging tone to her voice, "Very few would betray their general and fewer still would help foreigners kidnap their most prized possession,"

"Ninas a radical; thinks Grisha should get to choose if they serve the Crown, she despises involuntary service more than she does Fjerdans," He explained.

THEY WALKED INTO THE ROOM THAT Nini Zenik was meant to be in, but it was empty with things strewn across the floor and a discarded suitcase on the bed.

"She knew to expect us," The Conductor said, looking around with confusion.

"She isn't late, she's gone," Aurora said, moving the suitcase out if the way to see a badge with a wolf on it, "Drüskelle, ruthless Grisha hunters,"

"Explains the Fjerdan krydda the innkeeper was counting when we arrived," Kaz stated.

Aurora held the badge in her hand, anger coursing through her body. How could people do this, take innocent people from their beds and steal them away - even if they were Grisha.

"Shes probably captive on a ship to Fjerda by now," The Conductor stated.

"They had a clear line of attack," Inej said as she searched the area.

"Take another look, make sure there aren't any more surprises," he said, looking over at Inej before she left again.

"We've lost our way into the Little Palace," Arken - the Conductor - said in defeat.
