A few days after that evening, Yamaguchi noticed a letter tugged in a corner of their locker.
« Hello Yamaguchi, please meet me on the roof this afternoon after school, I swear I won't try anything funny. I just want to talk.
Mina. »
They panicked a little after reading it, scared that the girl wanted to try doing something similar again, but still decided to give it a shot. Perhaps she really just wanted to talk. People can change.
They gathered their things and walked quickly to the roof, where they met the Mina who was sitting on the floor, observing the city from high up.
When she noticed Yamaguchi, she took her earphones off and bowed politely. Her attitude was a bit different from their first meeting, and Yamaguchi was pleasantly surprised about it.
Before they could even greet her back, the girl got right in front of them, just like the time she confessed to them, but this time she was looking down, hands joined together to her chest. She started talking, really fast at first. She did look really nervous.
- « Yamaguchi, I am so sorry. About everything, about the kiss, about the forced flirting, everything... »
Tears started forming at the corners of her eyes.
- « I didn't lie about liking you, I really do, since last year. You're just so nice with everyone, it really amazes me. But I now realise how I acted was really wrong, I truly wanted to get to know you I don't know what got over me, I got upset when I saw the way you looked at Tsukishima, I- I shouldn't have said anything I said, it's not my place to control your love life and you didn't even know me like a day ago, I'm so sorry, I really am. »
Yamaguchi didn't answer directly, straring at the girl in disbelief instead. She tilted her head up and looked at them in anticipation.
- « It's okay, oh god. Just the fact that you apologized like this... thank you. » they finally answered after a short silence.
- « So you accept my apology? » Mina looked unsure.
- « I do. Thank you. »
She hesitated for a second before speaking again.
- « So, hum... can I ask you something? Please tell me if I'm being too much. »
- « Go ahead. »
- « Can I treat you for a meal? I'm not trying anything I swear, I just really wanted to get to know you. As a friend, I promise, I'll put my feelings aside. »
Yamaguchi didn't know what to do. On one hand, they felt uncomfortable around Mina, as she had still forced them to a kiss, but on the other hand, they didn't like turning people down. At all. People pleaser, they were.
After all, maybe she was maybe a really nice person..?
- « Okay, sure. Want to go today? »
- « Really? Thank you, thank you so much. I am so sorry, thank you for giving me another chance. And oh ! Sure, I'll get my stuff, let's go. »
She seemed calmer than she was yesterday.
They both left the school shortly after that, and started walking towards a ramen restaurant Yamaguchi had picked. After all, this was still an apology to them.
- « I don't mean to intrude really, but I noticed you and Tsukishima going home to the same building the other day. Is there any chance you guys live together? »
- « Actually we used to. But its over now anyways. »
If Mina noticed the saddened tone in their voice, she decided not to mention it.
