Sadness in his eyes

"Casey! Casey! Let's play hide and seek!" Kirsty said cheerfully.
"Just the two of us?" I asked. She nods. I smirked. "But that would make it less fun." "Oh." She said pouting her lips.
She then looked at Damian who was sitting at the couch watching tv.
"Tell him to join." She whispered pointing me to her brother.
Ooh..that sounds great!
Kirsty noticed that I'm smiling then curved her lips. "But don't tell him I told you." I winked at her, "No problem".

I approached Damian on the couch, still busy watching.
"Mind if you join us playing some games?" I asked him, smiling. Damian, a little bit surprised, stared at me. Wondering if I'm joking. I shook my head. He looked at Kirsty who was steps away from my back. She's pretending not listening to us. Then he looked back at me. "'fcourse, I won't mind." He said in a confused tone. "Great then!" I exclaimed.

We played two more games then took rest and have some snacks. Kirsty decided to take a bath first before eating. So she went upstairs to her room, leaving me and Damian. I turned my way to their kitchen to check for some food. Damian followed me.
"It's not you who wanted me to join you and Kirsty, right?" He asked from behind me. I took a jug of juice from the fridge before facing him. "She asked me to tell you".
He was quiet for a moment.
Then Damian sighed.
"I've never played with Kirsty since she was six." He looked away from me. Then took a glass and started pouring a juice in it.
I saw sadness in his eyes.
That was the first time I saw Damian like that.
"I dunno why she hated me. I just wanted to be the big brother she would play with, the one she would tell her secrets first before the others. I wanna be the one who'll protect her from the other kids, And punch her  boyfriend to his face." He smiled at his last line. But still there's sadness in his eyes.
I tapped his shoulder.
Poor Damian. I'd never expect he would be this open to me..showing his feelings. I wanted to hug him and tell him 'it'll be okay' .
But before I realized, I already did. I pulled him close and hugged him. Damian was surprised. But feeling my comfort, he hugged me back.

"It'll be okay. One day she'll realize she needs you..to be her playmate.. to be her protector.. and as her big brother." I said, almost a whisper. He faced me without breaking the distance between us.
"Thank you Casey. I'm sorry I have to tell you these things."
I smiled.

"What are you two doing?"
It was Kirsty, standing at the kitchen's door with a wet towel wrapping up her hair.
Surprised, me and Damian pulled away from each other. We both blushed realizing we've stayed in that position for quite too long.
"N-Nothing, princess." I said nervously.
She gave me and Damian a wondering look.
"Do you wanna have some juice?" Damian asked her. Kirsty shook her head then walked to the counter and took some cookies I made lately.
There's a moment of silent. Then Kirsty spoke,
"Brother, do you like Casey?"

Her words surprised us.
Or should I say terrified us!

Awww.. I was kinda happy with this chapter..hehe..
