Lilith watched as Hades left the place before reaching for her phone and dialing Ethan's number as she got up from her seat and grabbed her bag.
"Where are you?" She asked once he picked up as she began to walk towards the door.
"I went back to the studio. You can meet me there." Ethan said on the other end, getting her to sigh out as she pushed open the glass doors and stepped out.
"Okay, I'll be there in a minute." She said before ending the call, hardly giving him some time to reply. She walked past Hades' car just as he got in.
She glanced down at her phone once more, checking her emails, only to find it flooding with warnings from her director.
She had missed a lot of lessons because of work. She tried to explain it to him, but he didn't want to listen and blamed her for slacking off.
This time she was an hour late but can still make it.
Or else she would get fired.
She stopped at a stop sign and began to wave at the taxis speeding by, rushing with their last clients home. She waved frantically whilst checking at her watch.
The small sound of a car horn filled her ears, causing her to glance up only to notice Hades' car pulling up, getting her to sigh out deeply as she glanced around herself.
Not him...
"You really don't need a ride?" He asked and she pressed her lips together as she stared at him with furrowed brows.
It wasn't as though she had a choice.
He smiled slightly and unbuckled his seat belt and reached over to the other seat, opening the door for her. She reluctantly walked to the car, knowing he was possibly her only way of getting to the studio.
She pulled her bag off her shoulders, since it was a big car. He gladly helped her with the bag and she hoped in with ease before closing the door and glancing at him.
"I said it was fine." She said and he shrugged his shoulders as he gave her handbag back.
"There's no problem in helping someone out." He chuckled lowly as he approached the red light. "Where are you going."
"Green lantern studio." She said in a mummer as she glanced out her window and into the street, getting him to raise his brows in question.
"Are you meeting a friend?" He asked as he tightened his hands on the stirring wheel, knowing it was probably Ethan.
"I partly work there." She sighed as she glanced at him. "Acting lessons." She said, hardly stopping herself from telling him everything. But somehow she felt as though she owed him.
"Oh." Hades nodded slowly as he glanced at her, then back at the road as he made a turn. "How have you been making it? As in... Aren't the working hours eating up most of your time?"
"Well, I try to finish fast." She nodded and sighed out. "But I failed these past days, my director threatened to fire me. I understand his judgment, I'm the main lead in his short play, so I'm supposed to be available most of the time." She shrugged her shoulders and glanced at him, meeting his eyes for a moment.
"Why didn't you say something?" He asked as he turned at another corner again, only to spot the Green lantern neon sign a distance away.
"What would have changed?" She chuckled lowly as she glanced ahead.
"I would have asked my uncle to reduce your work time by an hour."
"I need the money-"
"Without risking your paycheck." He interrupted when he knew she was just about to decline a good offer.
"It's my job, I can't just let you do that. Obviously everyone would think I'm using you to get less hours." She folded her arms across her chest as he slowed down the car the closer they got.
"And what's wrong with that?" He asked as he glanced at her. "Everyone knows I like you so that wouldn't be-."
"Well I don't like you back and everyone knows that too." She deadpanned as she glared at him. "I don't want to look like a fake person in front of people. I've lived through hell, I don't have to live through it again." She said silently as he came to a stop in front of the neon sign.
He dropped his eyes to his hands on the steering wheel, trying to let her words sink in into his skull as they struggled to.
"You know, I appreciate your feelings for me but I won't return them. No matter how hard you try, I can't and I won't." She sighed out as she glanced at him. He slowly glanced at her as well, meeting her eyes as she spoke. "It would be better for you if you stop trying. Let's pretend we never went to the same school, like we don't know each other. Like workmates, that's all. It's embarrassing when you make it an effort to bring me things in the office. It's embarrassing for me if you don't feel embarrassed at all." She cleared her throat as she finally got it out of her throat and opened the door, dropping down since he barely answered.
"Thanks for the ride, by the way." She smiled forcefully before closing the door and walking towards the building, leaving him paralyzed with his thoughts in his mind.
