September 1968
Seoul, South Korea

Felix and Jisung huddled together, attempting to squeeze into the cramped confines of the small covered cell amidst the plantation's cleaning equipment.

"Wait, don't move so close to me, I might stain your hanbok," Jisung whispered, concern evident in his voice.

Felix realised it and immediately adjusted his position, creating a bit of distance between them. "You're right," he responded with a giggle.

"Do you need anything? You should be in the hall by now. General Lee might be looking for you," Jisung fretted, his voice laced with worry, but Felix hushed him with a gentle gesture.

"I want to ask for something very important," Felix stated, his tone serious, drawing Jisung's full attention.

"This must be essential, young master," Felix remarked, his gaze meeting Jisung's as he sighed softly, "don't call me that, I beg you."

With a grin of anticipation, Jisung awaited Felix's request. "Hmm, I understand. What do you need?" he inquired, ready to assist his friend.

"I am looking for a man from the clan of Bang. I want you to look for him," Felix revealed, prompting a puzzled expression from Jisung.

"I apologise, Felix, but we are not discussing this now. You should be in the hall to meet the family of your future spouse. We are supposed to stop looking out for a man, you know tha—" Jisung's words trailed off as Felix interjected with urgency.

"No, no, no, I-it's not that. This man is an ill-mannered civilian who humiliated me. I want to penalize him and be disciplined for his delinquency. Also, I would never want to be married to a woman, you know that," Felix confessed, the weight of his revelation hanging in the air as both friends fell into a brief silence.

Of course, Jisung knows the truth about the Lee family's heir – a secret they share, binding them together in an unspoken understanding that defines their friendship. It's a clandestine aspect of themselves that no one else knows. No one must know about their secret fantasies and desire for men, no one, especially General Lee.

Felix's father, unaware of his son's true desires, would never comprehend or accept them. The mere thought of their secret being exposed fills Felix with dread, as it could lead to dire consequences for both of them. Should General Lee discover their truth, Felix would face expulsion from the family, shaming the Lee name. Meanwhile, Jisung could find himself imprisoned for supposedly influencing the heir of their prestigious family.

Felix understands all too well that his father would deflect blame onto Jisung if their secret were to come to light, further complicating their already precarious situation. The stakes are high, and Felix is determined to protect their secret at all costs, knowing the potential repercussions if their truth were ever revealed.

"I want to give you a warm embrace, my friend, but my suit is covered with dirt. You need to maintain your presentable posture until the end of this day in front of Professor Hwang's family," Felix sighed sadly, acknowledging the constraints imposed by their circumstances.

"I never want to be Professor Hwang's son-in-law. I don't know why my father keeps making decisions for me without my consent, and I can't even do anything about it. If anything, I would rather marry Hyunjin than Yeji, but my father will never like that idea," Felix lamented, a small glimmer of humour seeping through the seriousness of their conversation.

"We really need to stop talking about this before someone hears us and we get ourselves into trouble," Jisung whispered urgently, a sense of urgency in his voice as he reminded Felix of the risks they faced.
