August 2002
Hanna sat down at the table, across her very pregnant sister-in-law. "You know he doesn't stand a single chance without you, right?" Donna took a sip of her orange juice and smirked at the blonde.
"What are you talking about?" Hanna looked up from her magazine and eyed Donna.
"Jax. He won't make it without you... He's a wreck when you guys fight. Stays on the sofa, drowning his little sorrows."
Hanna looked away from Donna for a brief minute before letting her eyes settle on the bulging baby bump. "When are you due? I always forget."
Donna rolled her eyes and smiled. "Soon. If I don't go into labor before the due date, I might have to just rip her out myself. Forget the doctors, the drugs, all of that nonsense."
Hanna's laughter was like music to the biker's ears. He walked in the house and took his kutte off. Placing it on the sofa, he walked into the kitchen to see his girlfriend and Donna sitting at the table. "If that happens, be sure and let me know firsthand, I'll help ya out, Don." Jax kissed her forehead before moving to Hanna's side.
"Oh Jax, I knew I could always count on you. Thanks so much!" Donna laughed. She watched the way Jax looked at Hanna, so full of love and happiness. Then it hit her... he was going to propose. Thinking back on the other night when she overheard Opie and Jax talking about marriage and how different Jax wanted things to be between him and Hanna, Donna knew that was going to be the next step Jax would take. Despite everything going on between them, all the fighting and arguing.
"I better get going, Opie wants to take me on a date and I can bet he just got home and is already in the shower." Donna stood up and picked her glass up.
Hanna stood up and eyed her sister-in-law. "Oh wait, Don, what are you gonna name her? You never told me." Hanna pulled her sister-in-law into a tight embrace.
"Elizabeth Marie... I want to call her Ellie. Ope wants to call her Liz. I'm nixing that idea right now!" Donna pulled out of the hug and walked towards Jax to kiss him on the cheek.
"I like that, it's really cute! Since we're all being different here, I want to call her Beth." Hanna laughed as she felt Jax's arms wrap around her. "Just let me know that you got home safely."
Hanna was lying on the sofa, watching a movie when her phone started ringing. She grabbed her phone off the coffee table and answered the call. "Hey, is everything ok?"
"Yeah, I just need to know if you're ok..." The raspy voice spoke as soft as possible.
"Yeah, I'm ok. You know I'd let you know if I wasn't. Are you guys on a run tonight?"
Hanna heard him clear his throat and sigh. "Yeah I know, doesn't hurt to check though. No, I'm at the cabin. The rest of the guys are at the clubhouse. I'm guessing Jax isn't there."
Hanna laughed before speaking, "Nope... that's why I asked about the run. Why'd you tell him everything? You didn't have to tell him anything."
"I wanted to... He needed to know. Besides it helped fix your problems with each other. Couldn't have helped you in a better way, right?"
Right as Hanna was about to respond, she heard the front door open. "I gotta go, he just walked in. We'll finish this conversation another time."
Jax walked into the living room to see Hanna lying down on the couch. "Hey babe, what are you still doing up?"
Hanna forced a smile on her face as she sat up again. "Dirty Dancing was on. Couldn't pass it up. Is everything ok with the club?"
Jax nodded his head and sat down beside his girlfriend. He pulled her to him and draped an arm over her shoulders. After about an hour, Hanna looked up to see Jax asleep. She smiled at the sight before kissing his cheek, waking him up. He groaned a little, pulling his arm free from under her. Hanna laughed a little, sitting up so Jax could stand up.
"You want to go to bed?" Jax looked down at the blonde beauty. She nodded her head and grabbed the remote control off the coffee table to turn off the television. She stood up after setting the remote control back on the coffee table. Jax walked over to the front door and locked it. Hanna waited for him by the couch and grabbed his outreached hand when he walked toward her.
Jax woke up to an excessive vibrating noise. He sat up and looked over to Hanna's side of the bed to see her phone flashing. He leaned over her sleeping figure and grabbed the phone, Happy's name was flashing across the screen and he immediately slid his finger across the screen and answered the call.
"Hap? Why are you calling Hanna's phone?"
"Jax? It's Piney. We tried to call you but there was no answer so we've been trying to call Hanna, too." Jax heard the Tacoma Killer clear his throat. "Piney died, man. Everyone's at your mom's house.... You guys should probably get over here."
Jax hung up the phone and placed it on his night stand. Looking back at his sleeping girlfriend, he ran a hand over his face. Trying to figure out how to tell Hanna, Jax sat against the headboard for a few minutes. Jax leaned forward and placed his hand on Hanna's hip, pressing his fingers into her side. Hanna immediately jerked up and out of his reach and looked at him. "What the hell?"
Jax forced a smile on his face. "Sorry, babe." Hanna noticed the fake smile and the sad look in her boyfriend's eyes.
"What is it? What happened?" Hanna grabbed Jax's hand. "Who is it?"
"It's Piney, babe, I'm sorry." Jax felt Hanna's hand tighten around his as the words floated through the air.
"How? Where? When, Jax?" Hanna sat up on her knees and jerked Jax's face to make him look at her.
"I don't know. I just got the call. Everyone's at Ma's house. We need to go over there and find out."
Hanna moved slowly to get out of the bed while Jax was already slipping his kutte on. He looked at the blonde to see the tears rolling down her face. He rushed toward her and pulled her into him. Running his fingers through her blonde hair, he kept her close to him.
"Babe, we gotta go. We need to find out all the details and I know Ope needs to be with you right now or he'll go insane." Jax stood up, still holding Hanna. Finally letting her go, he grabbed her sweatpants and sneakers out of the closet. Handing them to her, he grabbed his SAMCRO hoodie and handed it to her. He stood by the door, watching Hanna get dressed, tears still rolling her face.
