It was an accident, a misunderstanding, I didn't mean to stab her. I was just scared. She was going to hurt me. I stumble back and drop the knife in my hands. Shit, I'm so dead. I look around, feeling warm tears begin to trickle down my cheeks. Mother is going to be so mad.

But I couldn't take it anymore. No one wanted to listen to me! Valentina is horrible. She hurts me. I jump as the door opens.

"D-dad?" I'm shaking, I know it.

His eyes widen as he takes in the room. "Landon, what happened?"

"S-she was going to hurt me. I..I just didn't," my voice goes from a stutter to a sob. My dad crosses the room pulling me to him.

"Shit." He mutters to himself, trying to form a plan.

Something in me felt so cold. Maybe I should go. Maybe that'd be better. If I was just the child that snapped suddenly. Then I wouldn't ruin my family's image. "I should go, dad."

"What?"

"I should just leave. I'll ruin everything..." I wiggled out of my dad's arms.

He looked crushed. Like the world had vanished beneath him. I grab the bag I'd brought with me to the temple and run toward the stable. I'll get on Midnight and leave. I ignore dad's shouting and all the other ruckus that joins in.

"Oh no you don't," I feel someone grab me as I open the door to Midnight's stall.

"Let go," I shout trying to get free.

"Like you can just kill someone and run off because you're nobility." He growls and throws me to the ground. I cover my face as he goes to hit me. But the strike doesn't come.

I slowly lower my arms to see the man on the floor. Midnight lowers his head. "I'm alright boy." I force myself off the ground and get him saddled up. I push the stable down open and climb on his back. "Let's go, bud." We ran that day and started a new life. One where I'd be the bad guy if it meant opposing my mother.
