Chapter 43

Hermione

Today's the day, graduation. Abuelita is here and she looks so happy. We are all currently at the Díaz house getting ready. I'm in the bathroom doing my makeup and hair. Tez is in his room looking for his cap because he lost it, again. Abuelita is sitting with Tito and the rest of Los Santos getting to know them better. And Oscar is in his bedroom getting dressed. Once I finished my makeup and hair I put on all my jelly bands and hoops. I have been dressing like a chola more these days than ever. I guess I just love the way I look now. I walked out of the bathroom and into the living room where everyone was now waiting on me. Oscar had on his cholo flannel and cargo pants with his nike Cortez's and chain laying on his chest perfectly. "Mija put on your cap and gown so we can take pictures." Abuelita ordered.

Tez and I put our backs to one another and made finger guns as Abuelita took the picture. We did a few more funny ones and then a serious one just for her and Oscar. "Okay I want the whole gang together with Mione then one with Tez please." Abuelita spoke and they all hopped to it. Tito and I stood beside each other and everyone threw up Los Santos gang signs lookin all hard and shit. Then we did some that made us look like respectable young people just for Abuelita. "Okay Oscar your turn." Abuelita spoke and Oscar stood between Tez and I throwing up a Los Santos gang sign. Then he done a nice one. Then he took a picture with just Tez. "Now one with Hermione please." Abuelita spoke and Oscar stood behind me holding me from behind like the old '90s pictures. Then he put his arms around my stomach holding me close to him and turned us to the side. Abuelita took a picture smiling down at it. "You two look like your in love. To bad he's to old for you mija." She laughed.

Once we were done with pictures everyone got into their cars and drove to the school for the big day. As Tez and I sat down I felt so nervous and sad at the same time. "Have you made up your mind about College? You know you have to send back your acceptance letter soon." Tez spoke in a whisper as people were walking across the stage. "Not yet but I'm close." I whispered. "Cortez Díaz." The guidance counselor called and he stood up with a big smile. He walked across the stage and shook the principals hand as he gave Tez his diploma. As Tez was walking off the stage he stopped, finding the gang. "Los Santos forever!" He yelled throwing the gang sign up. The whole Los Santos Gang stood up reppin their gang and barking like dogs. The principle gave Tez a look and continued with the celebration.

"You know you gotta do that too right?" Tez whispered after he sat down. I looked at him nodding. "God the principle is gonna be so damn mad. It's gonna be funny as hell though. Just wait til you see his face." I spoke as Tez laughed beside me. "Hermione Cruze." My name was called and I jumped up. My heart was beating as I made my way over to the principle. I shook his hand and grabbed my diploma before walking to the end of the stage looking over at Los Santos. "LOS SANTOS FOREVER!" I yelled and they did the same but I could hear Oscar yell something different. "That's my ruca right there!" My face turned bright red before blowing him a kiss and walking to sit down. After sitting for what felt like forever the celebration was almost ever. "Class of 2019 please stand." All my classmates stood up together. "Please move your tassel from right to left." We all did as we were told. "Congratulations class of 2019. You may now throw your caps." I took mine off and threw it into the air and catching it again. We all did a walk out and met up with our friends and family.

"Baby!" Tez yelled as Anna ran up to him with a smile on her face. "Awww look at the little graduates!" My Abuelita said taking a picture of Anna and Tez hugging. I looked around not seeing Oscar anywhere. "He went home. He said to meet him there." Tito whispered beside me before sliding a pair of keys into my hand. "I left something at the house I'll be at dinner tonight Abuelita!" I yelled running to the parking lot. I jumped into Tito's car and started it up taking off to Oscar's. Once I got there I walked inside and yelled out for him but heard nothing in response. Walking into his room my heart sped up. He had a hand full of roses. "I got you these." He handed them to me and smiled. "Thank you." I smiled back at him.

"Can we talk?" He asked sitting on his bed patting the spot beside him. I sat down beside him and my leg started to shake. "Mione listen when I tell you this okay?" He asked and I nodded waiting for him to continue. "I know you love me and I want you to know I love you too. But I don't want you to choose community college to stay here with me. I want you to choose your college for yourself and no one else. So with that said, um. I um, I'm breaking up with you." He spoke softly. Tears sprang up in my eyes. I nodded slowly as the words penetrated deeply. I stood up and looked at him for a second. Rage filled my stomach, boiling my blood like water. I tightened the grip on my roses and lost my mind for a split second. Raising the roses like a baseball bat I swung at him with them smacking him at least ten times. "Why would you do this to me! I hate you!" I screamed as I hit him til all the peddles fell to the ground.

"Mione stop. I'm doing this because I love you." He yelled making me stop hitting him the the flowers. "You never loved me! You know what?" I asked walking to the door. I opened it turning to look at him one last time. "FUCK YOU!" I screamed throwing the stems at him before walking out the door slamming it behind me.
