Hermione
Oscar and Abuelita walked back into the room after a good ten minutes. He looked like a deer in headlights and she looked almost the same. Once they both sat down the conversation went on. "Hermione, I have some news I'd like to share with you." Abuelita spoke up and the whole room went dead silent. "Yes?" I questioned a little tense of what it might be. "I had a conversation with Oscar here. He had nothing but good things to say about you. Which is wonderful to know since this opportunity has come up for me. I've talked to Oscar and he has agreed to let you move into his home full time so I can go help take care of a friend in Brentwood. Is this okay with you?" She asked sweetly. I looked over at Oscar and he seemed a little sad yet happy. Tito just looked at me waiting excitedly. And Tez well, he just nodded at me with a shit eating smile on his face.
"That's fine with me. But I expect phone calls, even if you hate phones I still want one at least twice a month." I made a bargain with her. She huffed a little but nodded. "When are you leaving?" I asked hoping it would be later in the year. I just miss her so much. "As soon as I can. This woman is very sick and needs much help." Her smile was still strong but she looked sad at the same time. "Will you still come to my graduation?" I asked expecting her obvious answer. "Of course mija I wouldn't miss it for the world." I smiled and went to hug her. "I know I just got home but I need you to pack all of your things. I am leaving this weekend." She told me as we parted from the hug. "It's okay. At least I get phone calls. And if I don't answer leave a voicemail, just so when I miss you and you don't answer I can heard your voice." She smiled and nodded at me.
"It was nice of you boys to visit. I'll see you all tomorrow to help with the packing." Abuelita waved as they all went to Oscar's Impala. "It was nice to meet you Abuelita! Of course we will be here bright and early!" Oscar yelled as they got into the car before driving away. Abuelita closed the door and turned to me. "Sit down." She instructed. We went to the couch and she grabbed my hand holding it tightly. "I seen the way you looked at that man. You love him. It's the same way I looked at your papá. It's beautiful mija but don't let one person dictate your future. If you want to go to Caltech, you go. Do something for yourself for a change. He told me how you took care of him in the hospital. That was sweet mija." She was happy and looked so youthful anytime she mentioned papá. "I do love him very much actually. But I'm not going to let that hold me back. If I want to go to Caltech I will. But right now isn't the time to talk about school. I want to know all about your trip."
Oscar
As soon as we pulled into the driveway and got inside it was like 20 questions. "What did Abuelita talk to you about?" Tez asked and Tito nodded in agreement. "I swear to Dios if you tell Mione I will jump you into Los Santos. And you, if you say anything I will but a green light on you for betraying Los Santos. Do you both understand?" They nodded at my threat. "This is very serious and if Mione finds out she will be absolutely crushed. I mean it." They bout put their right hands up and grabbed their cross chains. "Jero que él mismo y Los Santos guardaran este secreto." I nodded looking at them. "Abuelita is dying of stage 5 breast cancer. None of the treatments are working. She's going to live with a friend in Brentwood to keep Mione from seeing her that way. Once she's gone the friend is going to call Mione and tell her what happened but keep us out of it like we didn't know so she's not mad at us for keeping it from her." They both looked like they were going to cry.
And they did. They both broke down into tears at the thought of Hermione loosing the only blood family she has left. "Let's just hope and pray if doesn't happen in September. Lord knows she doesn't need anymore death in that month." Tez sighed softly. "Yeah she's actually lost everyone she's ever loved in September. That's the last month her Abuelita would need to pass on." Tito looked at me like I was crazy. "You mean to tell me September is cursed for her?" I nodded as Tito looked at me then Tez who was also nodding. "Damn. We gotta get all Los Sontos over here to send Hail Mary's tonight." He was right. "All of them. Tell them I said get here and get here now!" He grabbed his phone sending a mass text to everyone.
"I ain't giving you no specifics because some of you have big ass mouths. Just send your Hail Mary's to Hermione and her Abuelita and keep your mouths shut. Hermione doesn't need to know what's going on EVER! Ask for blessings, peace, and power then go about your business like it never happened." I demanded as we all gathered around in the church parking lot. Once I seen everyone's head nod we went inside to the alter. As I bowed down I could hear the whispers of Los Santos prayers being sent out. It broke my heart but also gave me some type of courage. This gang is mí familia and they were here to help me and my girl in our times of need, even if they had no clue what it was about. That's what true familia is about.
