"Terrific! Now what?" You said in an ironic voice.

The sunlight struck on the window and lightened the bedroom where a girl was still sound asleep. She started to toss and turn her body when the birds outside were chirping eagerly.

Do they have to be like that every morning? Your brows pulled closer together to make a frustrated face while trying to cover your ears to block those sounds. It would work out quite well unless another loud, familiar and annoying sound didn't occur.

RINGGG RINGGG

Your phone vibrated to the ring tone and tried to wake you up from the bed. However, today was supposed to be a do nothing day, meaning that you could sleep in a bit. Now every force was trying to stop you from doing so. You reached your left hand to the phone beside your pillow, struggling to tap and scroll the screen randomly to turn off the alarm.

Finally, the room went back to its usual silence. You slowly gained your consciousness after those unwelcoming sounds and felt something different about your body. It seemed to be lighter and your sense of smell, it was sharper than ever before. What's going on? You rubbed the corner of your eyes, feeling some lumps in your palm.

"What with my paw?" You mumbled then yawned before doing your morning routine--- Hold up! Paw? Your mind recalled those words a minute ago. You reached your right hand out again, slightly closing your eyes to have a better sight of a black paw. A cat's paw? What the---

"Meow."

What sound did I just make? You looked at your hand again and tried to open your palm. However, what reflected in your eyes was still a paw with four toes and one thumb opened wide. No, no, no. There's no way this is gonna happen. You walked towards the big mirror to look at... a black cat's reflection in your lenses.

"MEOWWW" (Translation: Are you kidding meeeeeee???)

You sat down, touching your shocking face and your dropped jaw. I'm dreaming, I'm still dreaming. You tried to confirm while stretching your face in different directions.

I just need to walk up. I just need to---

THUMP

Ouch, ouch, ouch. You didn't think twice before running and bumping your head against the closet. Your head hurt so bad but it was enough to have a reality check. You looked at the mirror again but nothing had changed except a new lump on your head. How come I become a cat after a night? Sitting down depressingly, you tried to recollect the pieces of memory until you remembered that special event.

Was it because of that---

CLANK

The door opened. A woman in her mid 40s wearing her usual buoyant floral dress was entering the room, doing her favorite monthly task. "[First name], it's time to pay the fee for---" She dropped her ballpoint pen.

The worst case scenario just happened too soon. If only you could have ten more minutes to come up with a plan because the owner of your flat, the woman making a horrendous face, detested animals.
I'm doomed… You knew exactly what would happen next.

"A CAT?" Her thunderous screams echoed in your room. Your eyes shut from her ear-splitting voice, wishing you could do something to protect your sensitive ears.

"GET OUT OF HERE, NOW!"

The owner grabbed your neck and mercilessly threw you outside the street. She pointed her index to your direction, "NO ANIMALS ARE ALLOWED!" The woman announced one of her unbreakable rules once again before heading back inside the house.

"Can't believe that girl brought a cat into her room." She grunted.

You stood there with a hopeless stare, surely not comfortable after being evicted from your flat. "Terrific, now what?" You said in an ironic voice.

You didn't know anywhere else to go except this place. The owner could be fierce as you could see, but at least the rent was quite affordable compared to other flats you used to live in.

Back to your main problem. You sat under a tree and absorbed in thought. Your phone, friends, relatives. None of them were currently available but even if they did, communication barriers would naturally jump in the way. For those with whom you share a loose bond, there's only a minimal chance for them to recognize you. You sighed hopelessly, eyes casting around the deserted street until this sight reminded you of a familiar road.

Of course! The psychic! You finally had a ray of hope because she's the only one who knew how to reverse this spell. It's gonna be a long day.

Turning your head around to look at the flat on the second floor, you sent your goodbye and embarked on your new journey.

You had never once liked being the center of attention, but on the avenue where stray animals were rare, the pedestrians couldn't help themselves to get a glimpse of you.

"Look, a kitten."

"Should we touch it?"

"But it's black... My mom said they often bring bad fortune to others."

Bad fortune? You shook your head from that generalization. You've gotta be kidding me... Yes, black cat is often known as the familiars of witches and symbolizes evil omens. However, it is considered to bring good fortune in love for the single ladies in Japan. But allow me to be selfish and keep that fortune for myself first. I still have a long way ahead. You grinned.

Your head was overwhelmed by the ongoing discussions about you, your current form actually. Most of them were from a group of friends or couples on the street. You just wished that they would mind their own business and pay no heed to you. Above all of this, seeing that psychic was more important. You dropped their words out of your ears and kept walking your own way to the shop.

After a thirty-minute walk, you arrived at the destination but saw an ordinary building like all of the nearby. It's gone? How is this even possible?? You sat down, palm placing on your forehead and was completely in a desperate mood. What the heck am I gonna do with my life? Taking a deep breath, you had no choice but to boost your own spirit as getting puzzled would only make things worse.

"No, [First name]-chan. You must stay strong!" You confidently announced. "Besides, how bad can it be---"

A torrential downpour in the morning made you wet from head to toe. Great! Your face revealed a strained smirk as the answer from the Divinity just left you speechless. Putting that aside, you dashed on the street to find shelter and came across a small lane with a plastic cover above. Eyes glancing at a small carton box, you jumped in there and temporarily laid down to rest. It was a bit dirty but still better than the cold and damp cement ground.

Dear Mom and Dad in heaven, your daughter is not okay.

You curled up your trembling body, trying to decrease its exposure to the air, but your drenched fur just made it more difficult to maintain your body temperature. However, you ground your teeth to fight against the cold despite this small and fragile body. Eyes sharpened with determination, you declared this much ain't going to drag you down easily.

The sunlights beamed again after the rain, heating your shaken body deliberately. You slowly relaxed your muscles, adjusting your breath and closed your eyes to calm yourself. While the street was back on its bustling vibe, people walked across that small lane, not noticing the kitten falling asleep due to exhaustion.
