"Hey, Anna-May," Embry said, hugging me tightly. Quil and Jacob looked at each other, smirking.

"Get off me, Embry." I pushed him away and sat back down on the couch. He looked confused, then down at his feet, his hands in his pockets.

"Burn," Quil muttered, his hand over his mouth.

"So, are you going to the rez school with us?" Jacob asked.

"Yeah. Thank God my dad bought me a decent vehicle before he...ya know." I shrugged.

"Wait, that blue truck is yours?" Jake said unbelieving. I smiled.

"Yeah. Pop the hood. It's pretty sick." I jogged outside and Jake followed, a huge smile on his face. I lifted the hood and he checked everything out. Then a few people walked up. Five of them.

One of the women looked to be a few years older than me, maybe mid-20s. She had long straight black hair and scars on her face. The second girl was maybe a couple of years older than me. She had short chin length black hair and a tight face. The three guys looked like Quil, Embry, and Jake.

"Hey, Jake!" the youngest boy said.

"Hey, Seth. Guys, this is Anna-May Calhoun, Quil's step-sister. She came here a few years ago when Quil's dad married her mom." He smiled.

"I'm Sam Uley. This is my wife, Emily, and her cousin, Leah Clearwater. This is Leah's brother, Seth. And this is Jared." I shook their hands.

That night, after Quil's friends left, I took a shower and got ready for bed. I was starting school on the reservation the next day and I definitely needed rest. I was just settling into bed when someone knocked on my door.

"Come in," I said loudly. The door opened and Quil came in, leaning against my dresser.

      "Hey. Were you asleep?"

      "Nope. Why?"

"I wanted to say, I'm sorry for blowing you off and ignoring you. A lot has been going on lately and I can't really talk about it." He stuffed his hands in his basketball shorts.

      "It's okay, Quil." I smiled.

The next morning, I took my sweet time getting ready. I put on a white and gray striped baggy sweater, denim shorts with white lace on the bottom of one leg, and my gray&black Nike's. I braided the bottom layer of my hair and pulled it all into a ponytail.

I changed my tongue and earrings, grabbed my denim-and-lace backpack and jogged downstairs. It was already 7:30. Mom was eating breakfast at the counter.

"Hey, mom." I smiled and kissed her cheek.

"Morning, baby. You look cute!" She smiled at me and patted my arm. I grabbed a plate and piled it with eggs, bacon, and toast and ate quickly.

"So, I think I'm gonna start calling your husband, 'dad'. He and Quil having the same name is confusing." I laughed. Quil came down the stairs then in jeans and a white T-shirt, rubbing his eyes and yawning.

"Hey, Anna-May. Think I could get a ride to school?" He smiled lazily and I nodded.

"Sure, but I call the radio!" I jumped up and ran to the truck, Quil on my heels. I jumped in, cranked it, and turned the radio to my favorite station.

"Dammit," he laughed, getting into the passenger seat. The back door on the passenger side opened a second later. I turned to see Jake, Embry, and Seth.

"We're getting a ride from Anna-May? Cool!" Jake winked and jumped in the back seat, Embry and Seth following. I laughed and Embry's head shot up, smiling at me. Butterflies were going crazy in my stomach and I felt the redness creeping into my cheeks. I turned quickly and headed to the school. I felt nervous as we pulled into the parking lot. Everyone got out.

      "What's wrong?" Quil asked.

"I'm not like you guys. I'm not from here. Nobody's gonna like me."

"Give them that famous Anna-May bitchy act and they'll back off real quick." He winked and I punched his shoulder.
