I woke up in a California king bed with pink satin sheets. Everything hurt and ached. I was dressed in a satin nightgown. I gulped and raised the hem, seeing all the bandages all over my legs and stomach. There were bandages covering my arms. My eyes widened and I touched my face.
Bandages were on my cheeks, forehead, across my left eye and nose and neck. I wanted to cry, but I couldn't. I guess Carlisle disabled my tear ducts so I wouldn't mess up my wounds. At least I wasn't a vampire. I guess they got the venom out in time. I was so grateful.
I looked to my sides to see Embry curled up next to me with his head resting on my shoulder. Seth lay next to him with his elbow in Embry's face. Quil was next to Seth. On my other side lay Leah cuddled up to me, her knees drawn up and her face nestled under my arm. Nova lay next to her cuddled with Paul. Jacob and Nessie were next to them. God, they were a great family.
I brought my attention back to my wounds. My back hurt like a bitch and I remembered the whip. I grimaced and everyone stirred. Nessie was the first to wake up. She smiled excitedly and crawled silently across everyone and she set herself carefully on my abdomen. She touched my cheek and I saw what she had seen when Carlisle and the pack brought me here
Flashback:
From Nessie's eyes, I saw Carlisle carry me in through the front door, Embry on his heels. Jake ran to Nessie and picked her up. Carlisle ran upstairs with me and Nessie followed. Carlisle and Edward sucked the venom from my body and gave me medicine to help the pain. When the venom was cleared up, Carlisle examined me. He wasn't going to tell anyone about the extent of my injuries, but Embry bullied him into it.
He told Embry and the pack that I had been beaten, cut, and raped. Embry fell to his knees by the hospital bed and held my hand, whispering in my ear. Nessie couldn't hear what he said. Carlisle said he didn't think I had been impregnated. Thank God. Nessie was an amazing vampire-human hybrid, but I wouldn't want Allen's child.
The flashback ended and Nessie hugged me lightly. She left the room and a second later, Edward and Carlisle came in."Anna-May, how are you feeling?" He quietly and effortlessly, without disturbing anyone, pulled me from the bed and carried me to his study and lay me on a hospital bed.
"My whole body hurts... Am I gonna have scars, Carlisle?" He hesitated.
"Yes. I am sorry, Anna. The pack killed Allen, but there was nothing we could do for your friend. Do you remember everything that happened while you were there?" He was referring to the rape more than the torture. I nodded and a tear slipped from my good eyes. Edward put his hand on my shoulder.
"Embry will not hate you. He will not leave you, Anna. He was by your side every minute. Through the eye surgery and he never ate or slept until last night when everyone slept with you." He chuckled and I smiled weakly.
"Thank you, Carlisle. Tell your while family thank you. I owe my life to you." He kissed my temple and they left. A moment later, Rosalie and Bella came in. Bella carried me to the bathroom and Rosalie ran warm water. They changed and cleaned my wounds and I got in the shower, wincing.
I noticed all my piercings were gone. I guess that was an unfamiliar change. I sat in a chair and Rose washed my hair carefully and Bella bathed me.
"This is so embarrassing..." I said and they laughed.
"I helped Bella with this stuff when she was pregnant with Renesmee. You're fine. It isn't your fault, Anna," Rosalie said conformingly. I smiled at them.
When they finished, they helped me dry off, careful to avoid the wounds. Alice brought in a change of clothes and hugged me. I pulled on the black seamless Bandeau bra, green and grey lace trim boyshort panties, an apricot lace tank top, and black track shorts.
Everything was loose, so I wasn't uncomfortable. I slipped into the red Converse and sat in front of the mirror while Rose brushed and dried my hair. I didn't want to look at my face in the mirror. Some of the cuts were minor and Bella removed the bandages and out some cream on them.
Rose loosely curled my hair and let it fall over my scarred shoulders. I stared at the bandage over my eye. I touched it lightly and hung my head. Rose turned my chair around and knelt until she was face to face with me.
"Listen to me, Anna-May. You're as beautiful as ever, understand? And if Embry Call can't see past your battle scars, then you're not his imprint and screw him." I smiled and she stood me up, hugging me. I walked downstairs and everyone was there. The pack looked like they had just woken up. I fidgeted with the hem of my tank top.
"Anna..." I looked up to see Embry coming toward me. I stepped back."Don't. I look horrible." He pulled me into his arms and rested his chin on my head. After a second, I put my arms around his waist. Leah came and jogged my back. One after another, members of the pack wrapped their arms around us until we were in one big hug.
I stayed at the Cullen house for a couple of weeks so Carlisle could monitor my health. It was mainly my choice because I wanted to make sure I wasn't pregnant. And I wasn't. The wounds on my legs healed with no scars. My stomach, back, and arms weren't so lucky. And my face was even unlovelier.
The day Carlisle removed the bandage over my left eye, I almost couldn't believe it. This was the first time I had seen it without a bandage.
As he removed it, I squeezed Embry's hand and took a deep breath. When I opened my eyes, I wanted to die again. My scars were like Emily's.A long scar stretched over my eyebrow, eye, and cheek. I could see perfectly out of it. But Carlisle said I may never be able to produce tears from that eye again.
