SEVERAL WEEKS LATER
School was out for Spring Break finally. Embry and I were definitely getting serious. But he still hadn't told me he loved me. I hadn't told him either. It was a Sunday morning and I woke up at noon. I groaned and picked my clothes out of the hamper of clean clothes by my bed that I hadn't folded.
I pulled on my purple bikini, pink track shorts, and a white tank top. I grabbed my phone and texted Leah and Nova to meet me at the beach in twenty minutes. I jogged downstairs to find my step-brother in the fridge. He closed the door and set a bunch of food on the counter. Hot pockets, sandwich stuff, pizza rolls, etc. I giggled and he looked up.
"No patrol today?" I asked, grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge and plugging my earbuds into my phone."Nope. Nova's giving us a break for a few days. Nothing has been going on anyway. I think Sam is giving his pack a break, too. I'm just eating before I go see Claire." He smiled and started fixing his food.
"Well, I'm going down to the beach to tan with the girls. I'll be back later." I playfully punched his shoulder and he nodded. I stretched on the porch and started my music. I jogged down the trail toward the beach. I thought about Embry and I and our friends.
Nova went easy on his patrols since she found out that he imprinted on me. Which I didn't mind. I loved hanging out with him. I got to the beach and found Nova and Leah.
"Hey, Anna," they greeted. We lay on towels. I took my clothes off and turned my phone off.
"So, why don't you use a tanning bed?" Leah asked.
"Well, I had one at my dad's house. But mom and Quil don't have room at their house for it. I'm thinking about going back back down there for the rest of Spring Break." I turned my head to look at them.
"That would be awesome!" Nova exclaimed, sitting up.
"We can leave patrols to Sam's pack for a couple weeks, right? They miss being the only pack in La Push anyway!" Leah said, smiling.
That night, it was settled. Everyone in the pack asked their parents and everyone agreed. Except Embry's mom. She was the only parent that didn't know about the wolf thing. Guess I would have to use my charm. I got dressed after my shower--making sure to look really down in the dumps--and walked to Embry's house. I knocked on the door and he answered.
"Are you okay, Anna?" he said, concerned.
"Watch and learn," I said low enough so only he could hear me. I pushed past him and into the kitchen where his mom was cooking dinner.
"Miss Call?" I said quietly. She turned and smiled.
"Hi, Anna-May! Are you okay, dear?" She said, stitching her eyebrows together.
"Miss Call, I've just been so down lately. It's been several months since my dad died, but I miss him so much. I have to go back to Louisiana to take care of some things at the house and see family. And our friends have agreed to come with me to help and Embry said he couldn't come." I pushed some tears out, sobbed a little, and ten minutes later Embry was allowed to spend two weeks with us.
I left the house the happiest girl in the world. I definitely had my way with words. Monday at noon, everyone was at my house, ready to go. My truck was an extended cab and bed, so everyone's crap fit. Nova and I were the only ones to bring more than one Duffel bag. I packed two outfits for every day. Riding with me were Leah, Embry, and Quil. Nova had Paul, Seth, and Jacob. We got there two days later. My house was in no-mans land. It was right between two city limits of two towns. We got to the house and I smiled. I jumped out of the truck and walked up the steps.
"It's beautiful, Anna-May!" Nova said, coming up behind me. Embry and Paul hauled everyone's bags into the foyer and everyone claimed their belongings.
"There are a bunch of rooms upstairs. Just pick one. They're all the same." I smiled, leading the way up the stairs. I don't know why my dad even bought this house. We had more rooms than we ever needed... Everyone picked a room. As Embry and I got to the last room in the U-shaped hallway, I grinned.
"This is my room." I opened the door and everything was exactly the same as when I left. The vanity in the corner, bookshelf by the bed, framed pictures on the wall; some of my parents' wedding, my first birthday, friends. I set my bags on the floor and plopped down on the feaux fur rug.
"You were adorable!" Nova said, bursting into the room as Embry sat next to me. Nova sat on my other side.
"Were? Still am!" I said, bumping my shoulder with hers.
"Guys!" Seth called.
"In here!" I yelled. He ran in, smiling.
"Anna-May, can we go swimming?" he said, out of breath.
"Not only can we go swimming, but anyone ever heard of a four-wheel ATV?" I grinned.
