"You're pregnant." the head nurse said blatantly, almost as if she was bored.
"I'M SORRY, WHAT?" George looked exclaimed in complete disbelief.
"E-Excuse me?" I murmured frazzled.
"I apologize. I didn't realize I had to spell it out for you." the head nurse says taking a drink of rum. She must be having a rough day.
"I- I don't understand. Please explain to me how I could be pregnant."
"Because the pregnancy test said it to be so." the nurse said holding her head up with the heal of her palm. She lifted her other hand and began counting on her fingers as she listed symptoms. "You've become nauseous. Normal in early pregnancy. You've gained weight and has put pressure in your back causing you to walk on your heals more rather than your toes. Explains why your steps have gotten louder. You have crying fits and bursts of anger. Hormonal imbalance causing mood swings. You're still too early to experience morning sickness, extreme increase in appetite and some other more obvious symptoms, but they're coming."
"But what about the blue skin and red eyes?" I questioned skeptically.
"Yes, and that she was freezing cold, but sweating heavily. As far as I know, that is not normal. I've seen no mortal or Asgardian pregnancy such as that." George counters.
"Well, you'd be correct." the nurse says taking another drink from her rum. "but as far as I can tell, the father isn't either anyhow, so I wouldn't be expecting such things from either type of pregnancy to happen." I paused and thought about it. She was right. Loki wasn't Asgardian. He was a frost giant. Something completely different with a very different anatomy.
George sighs. "Damn it all."
"I have forgotten that Loki wasn't Asgardian, so it only makes sense the baby wouldn't be either." I commented looking at my hands.
"Babies."
"What?" George and I ask.
"Babies. It only makes sense the babies wouldn't be either." The nurse corrects. "Plural."
"As in more than one?" I asked shocked for the 2nd time.
"That is what that means, yes."
"How do you know? It still should be to early to tell." George quipped.
"Frost giants can grow to be 15 feet tall. They develop earlier, though a pregnancy in a frost giant mother can last up to 13 months. I am not sure how this effects a human body. It is also to note that frost giant embryos and fetuses are much more demanding in gaining nutrients and whatever else it might need from it's mother's body. Though no body or heartbeat has been developed, I see the body's temperature decrease coming from 2 different sources within her." The nurse says looking at a screen. "I can only assume they are from the underdeveloped embryos."
I didn't say anything. I was shocked and trying to take it all in.
"Is it... safe... for her to be baring frost giant children?" George asks having trouble finding the words himself.
"To be determined. I don't know enough about this anomaly to say either way. My only concern is the embryos will develop too quickly and be too demanding on your human body thus possibly leading to health concerns, but that is just my hypothesis. This concern is also manageable, so I am not too worried, but I would still consider the risks of carrying 2 frost giant children regardless. As I said, it is early and most of this is assuming everything will be fine." The says rubbing her temples. "On top of all the health risks there is the societal risks as well."
"Societal risks?" I murmured pitifully. How much more am I suppose to take in?
"Yes. It is still prevalent that Asgardians and Frost Giants are enemies with inconsistent peace between the races. The tension is already a bit strained with our Prince being a Frost Giant and, not to be crude, but you, a mortal, being in Asgard and in the palace no less. Though I do not expect malace intent from any Asgardian, I would not be surprised if there was at least someone who may feel the need to determine the fate of your children."
