We walked to the throne room. Odin and Frigga were immersed in a conversation all their own. “Excuse me, Father, Mother, but Heimdall and....” Thor looks back at me, now realizing he had no idea who I was despite coming to the castle numerous times. “...My name is too complex and is left to only my family. I have adopted the Midguardian name ‘George’” I say holding my my head high. “Yes, of course. Heimdall and George have come to inform you about a particular situation.” Thor says gesturing to us and bowing his head only as to not smother (y/n).
“In just a moment. Do I need to ask why you are carrying an infant child?” Odin says seeming not surprised at all. After all these years, I'm sure a child wasn't the strangest thing his son has brought to the castle.
“That is apart of the reason we are here, your highness.” I say kneeling in front of him and Heimdall follows suit. Odin and Frigga exchange a look before giving their attention back to us. “Rise and explain yourselves.” he says in a firm tone. “Whom’s child is this and how have you come to obtain them?”
“The parents of the child are unknown, sir and we had found her on our mission to Midguard. We sa-”
“Midguard? You have brought a human to Asguard?” Odin cuts me off clearly already riled. “Do you know not of the consequences of such an act? We do not interact with the humans on any circumstances, unless there is no other choice. We protect the Midguardians. We do not alter their daily lives. We do not belong there just as they do not belong here.”
“We are quite aware of this, sir, but there truly is a valid reason on why we have brought back the child.” Heimdall says giving the most respect he could muster.
“And what reason is that?” Odin says trying keeping to his mind of reasoning.
“She has come to possess the essence of the soul stone.” I say getting straight to point as to the not be thrown out before we can explain fully. Odin was silent. He was thinking hard about the complexity of the situation already. Even if we did tell him the details of the story this main factor would still be the same with or without the filler. He only needed to the hear this part for sure. The reasoning can come after. Frigga talks into his ear keeping her voice low to prevent us from hearing. Odin glances at his wife speaking. “Bring me the child.” he tells his son, now having a much calmer tone in his voice. Thor approaches him gently handing him the baby. Odin observes the essence flowing through her veins and very slowly healing her bruise. The swelling had gone down, but the bruise was still covering a significant amount amount of her face. “Oh! What happened to the poor child's face?” Frigga says speaking up for the first time. She frowned at the sight as she leaned over to look herself.
“We don't know, Mrs. We had found her already in that state.” Heimdall says frowning a bit at the thought.
“It had been much worse when we first discovered her. We tried to clean her up as best we could.” I stand taller clasping my hands behind my back.
“Where did you find her?” Odin says opening (y/n)’s eye a bit looking at her bright pure golden eyes. I looked at Heimdall before speaking. He had a sad look and kept his gaze to the floor. “In an alleyway, behind some garbage bins.”
“Garbage?!” Odin, Thor and Frigga spoke in unison.
“You mean to tell me she was discarded like trash?” Frigga says not even believing the words when they left her own mouth.
“Yes. She was. I be- We believe the bruise came from falling from the bins.” Heimdall strains strains his voice. They all had an uneasy and disgusted look. “How did the essence get inside her the first place?” Frigga asks now taking the baby into her own arms.
“I'm afraid that would be my doing, Mrs.” Heimdall says stepping forward taking full responsibility. “The soul stone had took the form of tears and I had lost control of my emotions for (y/n) that I had unintentionally let tears fall onto her and she had absorbed them herself.”
“(Y/n)?” Frigga asks. “Who is (y/n)?”
“(Y/n) is what Heimdall had named the baby.” I say nodding towards the bundle.
“You've named her? You do realize that she is not yours and she cannot stay here?” Odin tells him.
“...Yes…” Heimdall says reluctant. The room was silent as everyone was pondering on what to do. This situation was very complex and unfortunate, but the the main factor remains. She cannot stay here. She cannot stay, but she cannot go with that kind of power running through her. “I have a thought, but I need to ponder on it to sort out some details before coming to a final decision.” Odin stands from his throne. “She may stay for now until I decided what and where to go from here. With that being said, you are dismissed.” Heimdall didn't waste a second to approach Frigga and gently take (y/n) from her arms. “Thank you, Mrs. Thank you, Alfather.” Heimdall nods to him in respect before we both left without another word.
The next few weeks were going by fast, but Heimdall would not let that little girl go. He even set up a bassinet to keep her by his side while he stayed at his post. We would visit her often and I found extreme joy in making her laugh. Oh her laugh was so humorous. It would start out as little giggles and then escalate to uncontrollable loud laughter. It made me laugh to see her laugh. I know it surely brought a smile to Heimdall’s face. Patricia would find so many small baby clothes to put on her and Elizabeth was the one to make sure she maintained the proper level of health she was supposed to. Heimdall wanted to do everything else. Feed her, change her, soothe her cries. He did every necessity for her right there without leaving his post. He was a perfect caretaker, just like a father would be. However, the fantasy can't last forever. Odin did call us back with his final word.
“She is going back to Midguard.” The sadness was apparent on Heimdall’s face.
“Not alone however. Leaving her to be raised on Midguard without supervision would be inviting trouble.” Odin states.
“I will go with her.” Heimdall states immediately.
“Absolutely not. You are needed here at your post.” Odin replies firmly.
“But, your highness, I believe I can-”
“Silence, Heimdall! My decision has been made and that is my final word.” Odin had a warning in the tone of his voice. “I will put together a group to accompany her on Midguard.” The room was thick with silence. I looked between our little group. Everyone from our mission. No one spoke up, but I felt had a responsibility to that baby girl and I didn't want it to slip through my fingers. I stepped forward. “Excuse me, sir…” I knelt before him. He looked at me with curiosity and a slightly unsure gaze. “... will you accept volunteers for this task?”
