Rodrick's POV
As much as I didn't want to, I got in the passenger's seat and let Greg drive.
I can't believe I'm doing this right now.
"Hey...... Rodrick?" Greg asked quietly.
"What?" I asked.
"I don't know how to drive....." Greg said.
Oh..... right. He's 12.
"Why didn't you say anything about it before you got in the driver's seat?" I asked him, annoyed.
"I guess I didn't really think about it." Greg answered.
There was a short silence, until I spoke again.
"Well...... I guess I'll have to teach you then." I told him.
"Alright...." Greg said nervously.
Greg then grabbed the steering wheel. He was holding on to it really tight.
"You know you don't have to hold on to the wheel so tight." I told him. "Your knuckles look really white."
"I'm sorry ok!" Greg said, his nerves were obviously shot.
"Ok.." I said, trying to sound as calm I could. "So the first step is to put the key in the van to get it to start."
"Oh..... ok." Greg said as he took his hands off the wheel and put the key in the van. The van then turned on.
"Ok." I said, nervous about what he has to do next. "Now, you grab the wheel and put the van into reverse and turn it around. Make sure to do it REALLY slow."
"Alright." Greg said. "But... where is reverse?"
"You move the stick that is by the radio, you move the stick to the label that says 'R'." I told him.
"Oh ok." He said.
He put the van into reverse, grabbed the wheel, hit the gas pedal and tried to turn around. But as soon as he hit the gas pedal and tried to turn around, there was a huge jolt.
"I said SLOW!" I shouted.
"I'm sorry!" Greg yelled. "I've never driven before!"
I took a deep breath.
"Alright, let's just try again." I said.
We kept trying until Greg finally understood how to turn the car around. I then taught him how to actually drive on the road. He wasn't the best at driving, but he was way better than me. Even if he was going pretty slow.
I can't believe I just said that.
After a few minutes of Greg driving on the road, we finally started to talk again.
"Well, now you'll see who has the easier life, huh?" Greg asked, being a smart aleck.
"I guess so." I said, irritated. "I can go back to middle school, it can't be that hard."
"You'll see...." Greg said with a smirk.
"Well you'll find out that my life isn't a real picnic either!" I told him.
"Alright..." Greg said, with his smirk not going away.
When we got to Greg's school, I realized that I forgot to say something that was very important:
The Groundrules!
"Hey Greg." I told him.
"What?" He asked.
"I have some groundrules about what not to do while being me, ok?" I told Greg.
"Ok." Greg answered.
"Alright." I started. "So, you can't make me look like a dork, a nerd, or anything like that, and when you see my friends, make as little conversation as you can."
"Fine, I guess I'll do that." Greg said.
"Oh, and one more thing." I said.
"What is it?" Greg asked.
"Whatever you do, DO NOT embarrass me in front of Heather Hills! If you do, my chances of being with her are slim to none!" I told him.
"Ok." Greg said. "Now it's my turn."
"Ok, what are they?" I asked irritated.
"You can't embarrass me in front of anybody, and you can't do anything that might ruin my reputation......" Greg started.
"What reputation?" I laughed.
Greg rolled his eyes and continued with his speech.
Greg's POV
"As I was saying." I started again, agitated. "You can't talk to Fregley for a long time because he might think that I suddenly became his best friend, and lastly, PLEASE don't make me look like an idiot in front of Holly. I do that enough on my own already."
"Alright." Rodrick said as he got out of the van.
When Rodrick took a few steps out of the van, I saw Rowley go up to him. Rodrick looked so annoyed.
"Bye bye!" I shouted to Rodrick like a smart aleck. I got a glimpse of his angry face as I started to drive off to Rodrick's school.
Whenever I got to the school, I parked in the parking lot. I'm just glad that Rodrick taught me how to do that or it would not have turned out good.
I sat there for a few minutes. I looked into the rear view mirror, and got freaked out again when I saw Rodrick's reflection. This was all just too weird!
I got out of the van with shaky legs and closed the door.
This was going to be the weirdest day ever.....
