Mari's POV
I stood in shock as I look at my arch-nemesis face-to-face. I finally realize I am holding the knife and I quickly hide it behind my move. Smart, Marinette. Smart.
"What are you doing here?" I asked trying to change the subject
"Umm... this is a public property?" Chloe deadpanned.
"Okay, so how much did you see and hear?" I asked curiously, hoping she didn't find out.
"Oh, nothing..." Chloe said. Phew.
"Except for the fact that you carry a god in your purse and save the world everyday."
My relieved face melted into shock.
And when I finally found my voice:
"Oh no! Oh no!! Oh no!!! This is a disaster! A disaster, a disaster!!" I yelled while speaking absolute nonsense.
"Marinette, calm down. You're secret's safe with me," Chloe said. "Ladybug."
"Ugh."
"But why Marinette, why did you want to do this to yourself?" Chloe asked
Should I tell her? How would she react? Would she mock me? Would she post this on the internet and make me a laughing stock?
"I'm fine..." I started.
"Really, because at your back there is a blood-stained knife and you talked about how useless you are.," Chloe said, not impressed with the lie I told
"Ugh, fine... In as much as I don't want you to know, I guess I have no choice," I sigh before I begin. "Ever since Lila came to our school, she's been spreading lies about famous people and manipulates the class into doing things for her. When I confronted her about it, she threatened me and promised to take away all my friends and Adrien. I don't know what happened, but now no one believes me. Not even Alya or Adrien. I no longer know what to do..." I begin to cry and babble.
Then something happens that I never expect...
Chloe HUGGED me?
As strange as it was, I felt warmth in the hug and hugged back.
After a while, we broke the hug
"Okay, Dupain-Cheng. First things first, you have to unzip your kwami," Chloe said.
Oh no! Tikki! I screamed
"Oh yes, Tikki," Chloe deadpanned once again. Oh shoot I said that out loud
"Tikki, I unmute you" (A/N: I dunno what to write here so if you have something better, please comment and I'll change it, thanks.)
"Are you okay Marinette? Why would you do such a thing?" my kwami questioned.
"I'm sorry, Tikki. I don't know what overtook me. I promise it won't happen again," I reply.
My kwami nods understandingly and gives me a cheek-hug
"Dupain-Cheng?" Chloe calls
"Yes, Chloe?"
"I'm sorry for the way I treated you...."
"It's because I'm Ladybug, right?" I ask slyly
"No!" she shouts. I look at her. "Okay, fine! Maybe it is, but I am truly sorry. I don't have the most perfect life, so I decided to make yours a living hell."
I faked surprise. "Moi? having a better life than yours? What could I possibly have that Chloe Bourgeois, daughter of the mayor of Paris, does not?"
"Two parents loving each other. My mom and dad are not really on good terms, and my mother doesn't even remember my name. She sometimes calls me Claudine, Claudette, even Chlorine! (A/N: Who is having Style Queen vibes here?) I'm just sorry."
"It's okay, it doesn't matter what you've done in your past, but what you do to change it for the better," I respond
"Friends?" Chloe says, pulling out her hand
"Friends," I say, hugging her.
*Meanwhile*
No one's POV
HawkMoth was standing in his lair, this time without the combination of the Peacock miraculous.
"Master," Duusuu squeaked. "Sorry to disturb you, but you could have akumatised that girl. Why didn't you?"
"Ah, that's a very good question from you Duusuu. For a kwami," the insane man muttered. "That girl's spirit is very strong. I need to take her when her defenses are weak, so she can be powerful enough to finally take Ladybug and Chat Noir's miraculous."
HawkMoth brought out his cane and evilised a butterfly before commanding, "Stay in my cane, akuma." The akuma went into his cane and immediately, twelve marks appeared with the first mark being halfway filled with a purple glow.
"Once this cane is filled, t would be when Ms. Dupain-Cheng is at ground zero. Then I'll akumatise her, and she will be the my masterpiece. Then finally, Ladybug and Chat Noir's miraculous will be mine!" HawkMoth laughed. "Nooroo, Duusuu, unify!"
The peacock kwami flew into the peacock brooch and turned the villain into ShadowMoth.
"But for the time being," he smirked. "Let's cause some mischief."
