ANGELIQUE LE
"There's a new guy, should we meet him?" I heard Mary say to Darci. Something about their tone told me that for the 'new guy' to have caught their attention, he must be attractive in some sort of way. Typical.
Yet, my curiosity won and I glanced over to see where Mary was gesturing.
A boy with black jeans, a black shirt and well a black jacket. His hair was black like mine but tipped with a brilliant shade of indigo. Then there were his eyes, green with prominent flecks of amber. His stance tells me he's a pretty confident guy, and his nimble and calloused fingers say he plays the guitar. Or maybe electrical, I'm not sure.
What caught my eye the most though, was that my friends- Claire and Jim- were engaged in a conversation with him. He said something that made Claire giggle which Jim didn't look to happy about. So I was right about the confident part, and now I could add that he was a flirtatious idiot.
I narrowed my eyes. Gods is he dense? My best friend was obviously with Jim. Immediately I pegged him as bad news. Time to break this up, I thought. Once I got in earshot I called, "Hey Claire! Hey Lake!"
"Angelique!" Claire said cheerily. "This is-"
"Douxie," he told me in a British accent, "I'm new."
"So I've heard," I replied.
Then something dawned on me. Wait a second...
"Douxie Casperan?" The words came slipping out before I could stop them.
He looked a bit confused. "Um, yes, how'd you know?".
Then for the first time in my 15 years of life, principal Señor Uhl saved me. The man placed a hand on my shoulder and said, "I see you've already met Douxie, Angelique."
Then he spoke to to Douxie, "Angelique here is a good student, not to mention this year's Flag Football captain, oh, and last year's captain, and the year before that-"
I cleared my throat for Señor Uhl to get to the point.
He coughed. "Anyways, you two also happen to have the same schedule so she will be-"
"Showing you around the school!" I finished up for him. "You already told me this remember Señor Uhl?" Of course he hasn't but I prayed he would think he forgot that he told me this already.
"Right... Well you're in good hands, Douxie," Señor said still looking unsure.
"My memory is failing me these days," he muttered as he headed towards his classroom.
I breathed a small sigh of relief while Claire exclaimed, "This is great!"
No it's not! I wanted to scream. I had totally forgotten that I had promised Merlin I'd watch over his apprentice. "Hisirdoux Casperan," the old wizard had said, "but he goes by Douxie."
Merlin had already set everything up so now I was stuck with a person whose name literally meant hazardous and I knew this from my fair share of French from Piper back at camp.
(The word hasardeux means hazardous in French and was probably used for Douxie's name which fits Douxie's reckless tendencies).
"Claire lets go, class is starting," Jim said impatiently. "Bye Angelique".
As he tugged her away Douxie called after her, "Remember to think about joining the Battle of the Bands!"
"I will!" she answered, smiling and waving.
It was only then that I finally looked Douxie in the eye, "C'mon Hazardhead, we have the same class."
