Lai
I walked around my new apartment, studying everything. Amare and my dad were supposed to come over later to help me unpack things and set up Malasia's bed. It felt good to have my own but there was still the troubles of getting money. Mama has been helping me out a lot lately since I got fired from the club due to my little run-in with Meshelle. Mama thinks that I wuit the job so I let her believe that.
"When were you planning on telling me that you knew my son and your daughter have the same father?" I looked at her like she was crazy. Corey and I never even got into details about his other kid. He never even mentioned anything about his other kid's mother around me because we barely even talked. He only used me like he did in Miami. And for some reason, I always allow him to.
Meshelle's fist were balled and she was letting out shaky breaths every other minute. "I didn't even know," I replied. She took a step closer to me and I slowly stepped out of one of my heels. Fighting has never been something that I do unless there's a good reason. If not, then you can win verbally.
"Why is it even important? Just because our kids have the same father doesn't mean we have to be involved. You just mind your business and I'll mind mine. It's not like Corey is the best dad anyways." I leaned down to put my heel back on and she was still standing there.
"Mesh, c'mon." Her co-worker pulled her arm but I guess she wasn't going to feel satisfied until she pulled me hair and attempted to get her a few punches in. I've always never tried fighting but sometimes you just have to do it because females think they can just do whatever and get by with it. Meshelle would've been good if she had just left it alone and walked away but she chose not to. My face was hot now and all my hits were being directed towards her face. She eventually lost her balance, pulling me down with her by my hair.
I was still going at it though while someone was tugging at my left arm. That happened to be Rico.
But I've changed so much since I've got fired. My daughter was now my number one priority, I'm learning to become way more confident, and I've made very few changes to my appearance. And one more thing... The pregnancy test I took came back negative so I've been very careful lately. Malasia will be my only kid for a while because I'm afraid of bringing another in right now. It just isn't the time.
There was a knock at the door then Amare walked in with Dad following behind with his toolbox. We still weren't getting along very well. He would talk to me occasionally but not about anything significant. Malasia stopped playing with her toys and ran to her granddad. "Hey, baby girl." Kevin picks her up and places a kiss on her cheek.
"Still need the bed set up?" Amare inquired.
"What do you think?" I replied sarcastically. The three of them walked down the hall as I went to my room to proceed putting my clothes in the closet. There were times in this apartment where I felt like I was alone even when family was here and that feeling is weird. I'm just not used to being by myself. There's always been someone by my side because that's just how insecure I am. I've been trying really hard to stop with my old ways but they would just overpower my new ways sometimes and confuse the hell out of me.
My phone rung as I was about to hang up a shirt. The I.D. showed Yaris's number. At first she was upset that I gave up on dancing but she finally came to realization that it was something that needed to be done. It was the best decision I could ever make to help myself and my family. We were all being torn apart because of it and I missed the old times. That's what I was trying to get it back to right now by showing my parents just how responsible I could be.
"Yeah?" I answered, dryly.
"What's up?" she replied.
"Just settling in. What about you?"
"Nothing much. So, I've been in the house all week and it isn't even fun anymore. We, just us two, should go out or something." Sitting in the house has become one of my many hobbies and it does get old after awhile but I don't want to have to ask my parents too babysit or they'd think I'm back to being careless again.
"I would but I don't have a babysitter. Sorry."
"All right," she replied. We hung up and I heard someone clear their throat. I turned to see Kevin standing in the doorway of my bedroom. "You're done already?" I asked.
"No." Kevin walked into the room then closed the door behind him. I felt like this was about to be one of our heartfelt conversations so I prepared myself to get sentimental. He took a seat on the bed and took a deep breath. "What's up?" I pulled my basket close to me.
"Your mama misses you being in the house," he said. I nodded. Maybe this wasn't about to be one of those conversations.
"You're my only girl and my first born and that's why I was so over-protective of you. That's where I went wrong because as soon as I gave you the ability to get out and have a little fun, you took advantage of it and went all the way out. I've always looked at you as my teenage daughter but you're all grown up now and this just hit me. I'm still not even cool with you having a child. I've-- I just haven't been here for you like I should and it doesn't need to be like that, Lai. Yes, I am mad that you chose your career over your family but I have to move on and appreciate the fact that you're straightening up. I apologize for not being the father you've always asked for." A tear rolled down his cheek and he looked over at me.
I stood up from my position on the floor and wrapped my arms around his neck. It wasn't everything I wanted to hear after these past two years but it'll do. After all, my dad isn't a very sensitive person who can get deep into their feelings. That would be my mom.
"@Tyga: Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become succesful."
I retweeted the tweet along with the Instagram picture then locked my phone. That was my first time ever going through his stuff after our little situation. I also tried not thinking back on it much because it still made me upset most times.
TYGA
"Stop taking pictures. You're such a pretty boy," Adrian said. I laughed.
I looked at the picture once before posting it up. Adrian stood beside me, watching as I scrolled through my IG. "You follow her still?" She moved my thumb to point to her picture.
"Yeah, but it's not even like that," I replied. She nodded before sitting down on the sofa. I stood up and followed suit.
"Do you want me to unfollow her?" I ask, letting my hand fall loosely off of Adrian's shoulder. She shook her head.
"No, it's your page. Not mine, Michael." It's easy for me to tell when Adrian's upset and trying to hide it because we're that close, but I don't see why she would be mad that I'm following that girl. It's not like me following her is going to put us back together.
"OK, I'll leave you alone. Come on so we can get back here." I stood up and walked back over to the kitchen to grab my backpack. Adrian stood in the arched entrance.
"Give me like five minutes. I need to fix my hair," she replied.
"There's nothing wrong with it but whatever. Don't be long."
We were on our way to eat with a couple of her friends. It was the last I could do since I missed every other event she invited me to. It was just that I didn't want the media to get the wrong impression about us. We're just friends and that's it.
I felt my my pocket for my keys then began walking back over to the house. When I opened the door Adrian was sitting at the kitchen table, texting. She looked up and stared at me. "What happened to you doing your hair?"
"I decided not to. Let's go," she says. Adrian walked past me and made her way to the car. I grabbed my keys and followed.
"What were you doing before I walked in?" I asked.
"Nothing." She shrugged her shoulders then buckled her seatbelt up.
