Chapter 1

1

Blue hues, shades of deep twilight crept in as the night turned darker by the minute. The sky above was filled with a full moon and tiny little diamonds. Each star looked like a sparkly one. No cost, just eye candy in the sky.

The ground below suddenly shook, trembled in fear almost. It came and went quickly, a minor quake. No one had felt it. No one else here could feel it.  Laurel Grove South Cemetery only held the dead. It was well kept and a beautiful place to lay loved ones to rest.

Six feet under and buried beneath an old oak tree, one of the dead opened her eyes. Breath came, so did terror. Panicked, the young girl kicked and clawed at the wooden nightmare that had her trapped. "How did I get here?" She asked herself and continued struggling to get out of the dark box.

After a good hour she managed to kick the lid open. Six layers of dirt fell down on her and into the tiny space. She didn't even want to know what kind of bugs were now in here with her. It took several minutes for her to get to a standing position.

How to get out? She imagined a rock wall that people climbed up for fun. That usually had bungee cords to help a person out. No such luck here. She forced holes into the cold earth and slowly made her way up. Nearly at the surface she took both hands and dug like a dog would. The ground still fell around her.

Getting dirty was the last thing on her mind. Finally the ground broke to the soft grassy wet surface. She took all her strength and pulled herself up and out. "Holy crap!" She complained. Taking a step forward she then turned to see below. Scary! The dark hole seemed to laugh at her. A few steps to her left and then moving forward she looked at the gravestone. Her gravestone.

Seraphine Liza Maclaine. She looked at the dates of birth and death. "What is today?" She asked herself. Her hazel eyes looked around. The cemetery wasn't all that creepy. It was oddly beautiful. It kind of looked like how a rich persons grave yard would look. Chills came over her breathing corpse. Sera swallowed hard and began walking in the direction of he brightest light she could see.

A lamp post to the left lit the entrance of the grave yard and huge cast iron gates. Locked. She searched for a way out, but layers of coral and white colored bricks guarded the whole front of the cemetery. The only way out was through the woods. "So be it." Sera said and stalked toward the dark woods. Fear came to slap her in the face. This didn't stop her. Branches scratched her pale skin, leaving new open wounds. Leaves wanted to devour her shoes and feet it was so  thick. Sera moved as quickly as her body would let her.

She hesitated before crossing a dark road. She was unsure if she should take a left or right so she just walked straight ahead into more woods.  It seemed almost endless until she saw a light and a back porch. Closer she noticed a chain length fence, and a backyard with a large doghouse and kids swing set. She moved to the left and walked several feet, but a challenge was just ahead of her.

A sharp downward slope. The only way around it was to cling to the fence and inch herself across it silently as possible. She prayed the dog was fast asleep inside the dog house or rather inside the homeowner's home.

As soon as the was on the nearest street she looked up to read, 'Bel Aire drive. ' Her mind worked to think if she knew it. Nothing came to mind. She was lost and wasn't sure which way was home. The night watched her closely as she walked onward. It listened and waited for anything to happen. Under the sky and hazy lamppost lights she shivered and then it hit her inside and she screamed. Screamed in frustration, confusion and anger.

Hot wet tears streamed down her very pale face as she stomped the ground so hard she thought an earthquake would follow. The ground remained intact and she kept moving reading street signs for any clue as to where she was. Then she wondered, Was I buried Alive?

3

She'd actually been gone for almost thirteen months. Alive, she was now once again, but her death was quick and almost painless. A car accident with her uncle. The passenger side was hit like a rocket and she lost her life, but her uncle Louie survived.

Walking into the nearest neighborhood she decided to go left. She had no clue as to where she was. If only she could remember something . . . anything. From the corner of her eye she noticed a swimming pool. The gates were locked around it, but she carefully climbed over it and went to rinse off the dirt from her body and clothes.

She found a dirty towel tossed by the fenced area and used it to dry off. There was a small space that hid her from being seen. Sera slept there until dawns light woke her up. She made sure no one was around before making a silent getaway.

Honestly she had no clue as to where she should go. After a while she went to the police station to talk to someone. Officer Reylen smiled at her. "Can I help you?" She asked the young girl.

"I'm lost." Sera told her, looking around at the various characters in the room. "What city am I in?"

Reylen looked at her with concern. "Savannah, Georgia." She answered. The lady in her late thirties came around the desk. Her brown eyes looked Sera up and down. "Where'd you come from?"

Sera just told her the truth. "A cemetery. I crawled out of my own grave."

Reylen now thought she was crazy in the head. We have a mental case, she thought. "Have a seat, please." She gestured to a chair.

Sera sat down knowing this woman thought she was cuckoo in the head. It was the truth though. She had proof of the ground she'd came out of. Where though was the cemetery? How far away was she from it? "Is there a possibility I could see a map from Google's point of view?" Sera asked nicely.

"Give me a few minutes." Reylen said and made her wait. Minutes later Reylen came back with a bird's eye view of the surrounding area. "Here we are." She pointed at the station.

"Thank you!" Sera said and studied the map. She whispered names of places to see if any of them sparked a memory. Sadly nothing came to mind and she gave the Ipad back to the officer.

"I have a daughter around your age. Maybe you can come home with me and we can figure out where you came from." She warmly smiled. "You can call me Jennie too."

"Thank you, I'm Sera Maclaine." She told her and watched her face drastically change.

The officer knew that last name. Everyone around Savannah knew that last name. "Do you know the name Keith Maclaine?" Jennie asked Sera.

Sera's eyes widened in shock, "Daddy!" She smiled brightly at the woman.
