Myzela's eyes filled up with tears and they spilled over rapidly and onto the metal desk. Someone had used the Grimmstone to bring her back. Who had wished so deeply that it resurrected her? She thought of Aiden and asked curiously, "Sera, honey, who . . . who brought you home?"
Sera sat across from her parents. "Someone I trust and love." She saw her father struggling not to get too emotional. "Daddy, it's okay to cry. Both of you know I can't stay in this world anymore. I know I have to die again to save others lives."
Keith frowned and spat out, "Screw other people, Sera. You can live if you want to. People die every day."
Sera felt herself cringe at his tone. "It's not up to me to take lives. I'm not a reaper, the Devil or God. I can't do that."
Myzela pursed her lips in anger. "You're strong enough to do what's needed to survive. You were taken from us too soon."
Sera agreed with that. "I know I was. Life is very cruel sometimes and in the end we all fall down. No living thing can live forever. The soul can though. The soul thrives in the afterlife. Still I wasn't even sure where I was. It wasn't heaven or hell. A place between here and there I suppose."
"We want you stay with us. Live here and we'll supply you with the soul food." Keith told his daughter.

Sera shook her head. "No. I won't be kissing any strangers for survival. I'm sorry, but I need to go back."
Myzela cried out, "Please, no! Sera, please don't leave me again!"
Sera felt every ounce of their pain she got up and went to hug them.
"What about Aiden? You can use him for your first feed." Keith suggested.
Sera laughed to herself. "I will not do that to him. I will not do that to his family either. Look, I love you and I know you miss me like crazy. I miss you like crazy too. What's right is destroying the Grimmstone."
Reylen stepped forward. "Sera has been staying with me. She came to me the first night she, um, came back to life." She felt really awkward saying that.
Sera confessed, "I have spoken to Aiden. I've seen William and grandmother too. Aiden was the one that brought me back. He got the stone at a yardsale from Molly Burke. Yes, we know about Molly too."
"How exactly do you know all of this? Did Cora tell you?" Keith asked her directly.

Sera sighed in sadness, "Yes, actually she told Aiden that told me, Angelle, and Mrs. Reylen. She also told me to trust no one, not even you two."
"So that's why we're cuffed?" Myzela said angrily. "You don't trust your own parents?"
Sera began to cry, "I want to, but I know you'd put me on a plane to Greece in a heartbeat too."
Keith and Myzela looked at each other. That was the honest truth. So this was goodbye once again. They didn't want this at all. They couldn't do anything to stop Sera from leaving.
"I'll be gone soon. Please don't try to save me or find me. I love you so much. This is what's best for me." Sera smiled the best she could before leaving the room.
The screams of her parents rang out into the police station, but the door shut and Reylen stayed behind for now. When she reached outside she fell to her knees and bawled into her own hands. This was so hard to come to terms with.
Kissing random strangers and taking their souls into her seemed so wrong. She wanted to live, but not this way. She'd rather suck out someone's blood like a vampire. That was not an option, was it? Cora never said what the other Grimmstone's did or how they were used.
She decided to pay her grandmother a visit.

Quintin was so in shock he ran screaming like a child when he opened the door to see Sera standing there. Sera let herself in and called out for Cora.
Cora hurried into view from the kitchen. "My sweet girl!" She ran over and hugged her.
"I've missed you." Sera said giving her another hug. "Let's sit and talk." Cora sat on the couch with her. "I just saw mom and dad at the police station. Officer Reylen is gonna hold them there until I call her to release them."
"Oh my goodness. How'd they handle seeing you?" Cora said with concern.
Sera made a face. "Not very well. I hated seeing them cry. There is something I need to ask you. It's about the other Grimmstone's out there. Do you know what their powers are?"
Cora frowned, "Nothing good can come from any Grimmstone."
"I'd be good with being a vampire." Sera said with an awkward laugh.
Cora rolled her eyes. "Each stone involves taking someone else's life away. None of them involve drinking blood."
"Guess my luck has almost run out then." Sera felt herself getting more depressed.

Cora patted Sera's hand. "I'm sorry my dear. If there was a way without killing someone else I'd keep you alive too. I do love your company, but you need to spend one more day with Aiden before we send you back."
Back to where exactly? The same gray place she'd been left in? Right now that was her biggest fear. Returning to this place of trees and sky and not much else.
"Do these Grimmstone's trap you in a certain space? I don't want to return to where I was, Grandmother."
Cora looked confused. "Trapped? I'm sure you can move freely about in the afterlife. Unless I'm wrong about that."
"It's how it felt. I was in a maze of trees and fog for the most part. Maybe it was a waiting place for something more. I just want freedom on the other side."
Cora hoped for that freedom too. "I pray for your happiness wherever your soul goes. I wish for that cage of loneliness to let you go and have that joyful freedom you deserve."
Sera was crying now. "Thank you so much. Your words mean so much to me."
"You mean everything to me, Sera." Cora said as they hugged each other again.
