Trust no one . . . those words stuck with Sera all day and all night long. She could hardly even sleep because of it. Could she really trust Jennie? She was a police officer, but she knew that low down dirty cops did exist.
She double fisted the bed with a frustrated punch to both sides. Taking the pillow behind her, she flung it to her mouth to stifle a scream. It took over two hours just to shut her eyes to rest them.
Morning came and Sera was released from the hospital. She'd gone back to Mrs. Reylen's house. After lying in bed for a few more hours she got up. She found a note on the fridge for her. 'Went to work, I'll be home around 5 p.m. Order Pizza for yourself.' There was a twenty dollar bill for her too. She wondered if she should just take the money and call Lyft to give her a ride.
Deciding on the pizza and she did not want to risk the way her parents would react to her being alive. It wasn't long before the pizza person arrived. She opened the door on the second ring. "Hey," The guy said, looking at her. His face changed and he gulped down a scared breath. He stared and she figured he knew her.
"Here's the money and just keep the change." Sera placed the money on the ground and took the pizza out of his grip before he dropped it.

As she was closing the door the guy said her name. He placed a hand on the door to hold it open. "How is this possible? You died . . . I saw it happen."
Wow. He saw the accident happen? "Would you come inside and tell me what happened?"
This guy was clearly freaked out. He bent to get the cash and stuffed it into his pants pocket. "Do you remember me?"
No. She could not place his face with any name at the moment. Sera shook her head. "Sorry, nothing comes to mind."
"Let's say we broke up three months prior to your passing."
Sera was taken aback. "We dated?"
"Two years and seven months of it." The guy told her. "I'm in college. We met through friends and hit it off right away." He stepped into the house and shut the door. "Does the name William Brighton ring a bell?"
Sera walked to the kitchen to put the pizza down and he followed her. He got an idea and pulled out his cell phone. "Maybe this will jog your memory." He said and swiped through a bunch of pictures until he found some with her. "It hurt to delete some of these so I kept a few."

This Will guy cared enough to keep some their pictures? Maybe he still fancied her. Will showed her five pictures of them together. Slowly a memory came to her. They had fought about their relationship. He was yelling at her for not caring enough to make it last.
Oh crap! She had broken up with him. "I . . . I'm starting to remember you. I'm so sorry, William."
"For what?" He asked.
"Breaking your heart." She said and he looked away. "You loved me."
"Yeah," Will said and sighed. "We were in love." He changed the subject. His tone was serious. "How are you standing here today?"
Sera shrugged her shoulders. "I'm really unsure." She wanted to blurt out everything, but the trust issue swam in her mind.
"Can I tell you what I saw that day?" He said and leaned against the fridge door.
Sera nodded. "Please tell me. I have no idea what happened. All I know is that I woke up in my coffin."

Sera took a breath and spoke again, "Mrs. Reylen is letting me stay here while we figure all of this out."
Will nodded. "That's cool. The figuring all this out not the coffin stuff." He awkwardly said. His eyes darted everywhere except to her. "Work is probably looking for me. I have like five minutes, okay?"
"Yeah, that's fine." Sera said and waited on him to speak.
Will bit at his lips before saying, "I saw the person run the red light and slam into the side of your uncle's car. It flipped twice and stayed upside down until it was cleaned up. You passed at the scene and your uncle was taken to the hospital. You and him were going straight and I was two cars behind you. I had no clue until I saw your body. I wanted to help. I called 911 and all."
He was getting emotional and tears were falling from his hazel eyes. "It was really, really bad. I dragged you out, tried CPR, but nothing. You died right in front of me. So exactly how are you here right now?"
Sera didn't have the answers. "I have no idea. I swear, Will, I don't know."
Will found a piece of paper and wrote down his number. "Call me when you are alone. Alone, Sera. We'll talk soon."

"Yes, sounds good." Sera said and watched him hurry out the front door and to his truck. That brown haired, tall boy still had her heart. Memories were seeping into her now. Her eyes saw the day they met, how they loved and lost each other. She had hurt Will. Her cheating heart did her in. She saw the other boy in her mind, also tall, dark haired with earrings in his ears and two tattoos on his left arm. He wore a green stone around his neck tied with white twine.
The thought of yearbooks crossed her mind and she went to search Kaylie's room for them. She was super careful to put everything back into place. Jenkins High School caught her eye and she pulled two of them out. She took them back to the kitchen.
After eating some of the pizza she flipped through the year books to regain some of her old memories. Memory lane hit her hard and she fought with the tears in her eyes. She found the boy she was looking for. The guy she'd broken Will's heart over. Aiden Crowe was his name.
She found a picture of her and two girls. One was Asian looking and the other a caramel colored black girl. The names with hers were Hyshi Johari and Tirra Belmore. They looked so happy. Too bad school was over for her. Then again life had dealt her a lifeless hand. Hopefully she could get her G.E.D. in the future. That was if she even had a future to look forward to.
Sera put the yearbooks away and went to go flip through the t.v. channels to wait for Jennie to get off work.
