the moment he slid the door open, it was obvious, everything was different.
singular desks lined up in neat rows with matching chairs tucked behind, the small lockers at the furthest end of the large room, even the morning light that dimly flooded into the room through the wide glass windows.
it was so different.
sim jaeyun was not used to a classroom with desks so far apart lined up in this arrangement, it felt somewhat isolating from the other students. although, there were no other students in the room besides the deep brown haired male. he let his feet wander around the room, taking advantage of being the earliest pupil to arrive, rather he had been overly prepared that he walked into school an hour before students would even set foot through the gates.
he slid his hand across the desks wooden surface, he could feel small pencil scratches and marks scraping across his fingertips, evident that even students here would rather draw on the desks than listen in class despite the high reputation and standards this particular school had built up.
jake dragged himself over to the second last desk to the back of the classroom right beside the window, over looking the view of the courtyard and other buildings in the near distance. he slipped his backpack off his shoulder, placed it on the centre of the desk and pulled the chair out, flopping onto it and resting his head on his almost empty bag.
he didn't have an opportunity to get the required books for his classes as he was already preoccupied with moving and trying to relearn the korean language that had slipped from his mind when he had moved to australia. in the few days since he arrived back, there was simply no time and he wasn't sure how he would manage to survive his first day.
he turned his face over in the direction of the window and watched the clouds pass by ever so slowly, that he fell into a slumber with his arms wrapped around his head, from the outside he looked like a regular student sleeping on his desk in the early morning.

when he awoke, nearly an hour had passed and students had already filled the room, jake being unnoticed by the rest who continued to be immersed in conversation, just stared a little. he noticed chairs had been pulled away from desks and moved around so students could sit closely and chat together, it looked a little more welcoming now. he stared a little too long that someone turned their head to jake and gasped a bit too loud. everyone surrounding that student also turned to jake with their mouths open before exploding with chatter.
"is that a new student?"
"is he really korean?"
"wow! he's so handsome!!"
"not as handsome as me..."
"oh you.. shut up!"
"he could be an idol with that face.."
jake honestly felt surprised, unsure on how to react or what to say, usually he would have started talking and have introduced himself by now but his korean was not exactly the best at the moment and he didn't want to embarrass himself and create a bad first impression on the first day and so, he just sat awkwardly, his eyes darting to the clock at the front of the room every few seconds waiting for the teacher to walk in so everyone would shut up about him.
and when the teacher did walk in, all the students rushed back into the neat rows that jake had saw earlier, silence fell upon the room and the teacher said his good mornings with a grin.
small chatter began to arise again and jake laid his head on his desk once again until a voice belonging to the teacher called his name.
"sim jaeyun... ahh welcome!"
jake almost immediately sat up straight and looked to the front of the room, all eyes had turned to him.
"don't be shy, please introduce yourself!"
"uhm.." his throat was dry and he sounded like he had just woken up, even his hair was a little messed up from lying on the desk and napping before, he was even flustered from being called upon so suddenly. eyes wide trying to figure out what to say he took a deep breath in and stood up.
"ah- hello! i'm sim jaeyun, please call me jaeyun or jake, uh- i am from australia.. nice to meet you all, i hope.. we can all get along well! and thank you.."
he said biting his bottom lip and giving a small smile as he looked at all the faces that stared right back at him.
"did you hear that? he's from australia!!"
"his korean is so good!"
"he has two names!! that is so cool!! i'm so jealous !!!"
"what type of girl do you think is his type ?!!"
"do you think we would be cute together!?!"
jake slid back into his chair and the stares did not go away, the girl seated beside him was about to ask him a question when the door opened quite loudly and the attention had been turned over.
a squeal could be heard, then a couple more and when jake finally looked up he couldn't take his eyes off.
"park sunghoon ah... late on the first day,"
the boy slipped his slim figure through the half opened door and rolled his eyes as he walked to the back of the room, he was nearing jake's desk, his eyes followed the walking boy as he got closer, he could see he was definitely attractive and there was no denying it.
sunghoon stopped in front of jake's desk before looking him up and down like a sculpture in an exhibition, he raised his hand and gave a small wave before walking to the desk behind jake and resting his head against the desk like he had done minutes ago.
the brown haired boy had become a statue, frozen, he didn't even wave back, it's no wonder girls scream when he walks in, he has the body and face of a model. jake could feel his ears and cheeks slightly burning and he purposely laid his head back down onto the desk and wrapped his arms around again in attempt to hide his reddening face.
why was he blushing to a stranger?
let alone, a boy too?
though, it was one extremely pretty boy, he would admit.
