jake walked in a fast pace down the unfamiliar hallway, it was the second day of school and he was already running late, though the many students still crowding around and chatting in the hallway didn't seem like it. there was a small cluster of girls merging into a larger crowd, he heard gasps and squeals and then someone said

'park sunghoon'.

he had been thinking about this boy for the past day, he was pretty, clearly popular and seemed like a nice person, maybe this park sunghoon could be his new friend.

he pushed through the crowd of girls to see a a particular black haired boy with his head against his locker staring at his feet, his face hidden from view. students around him had no idea what was wrong and to be honest neither did jake.

sunghoon let out a low shaky sigh and swiftly moved away from his locker, harshly pushing the girls aside so he could leave the scene his head directed at the floor, jake got a blurry glimpse of his profile, a tall nose bridge and red half lidded eyes. but, he didn't even look back at jake for a second, he was left completely ignored.

the bell rang and all the students hurried to their classes, jake stood in the middle of the hallway as students rushed past him, he just watched a certain tall male run down the hallway like he was running for his life. by the time sunghoon had turned the corner at the end, the entire area was silent, empty, abandoned. he blinked a few times before sprinting down the hallway trying to catch up with him. it didn't feel right to just not follow him, jake was also curious and really was there any point of going to class when he couldn't understand anything?

his breathing was heavy and uneven by the time he caught up to the black haired male, but sunghoon just kept running, jake was determined to catch up to him. he ran down the stairs, through another hallway, and finally halted as sunghoon stopped and grasped one hand on the wall and gasped for air, what was he even running from? his hand slid across the wall until he reached the bathroom door handle and almost immediately opened the door and shut it with a thud. jake observed from a distance. did he just need to go bathroom...?

his red eyes from before now seemed like eyes that had cried tears. his heart was beating loudly against his rib cage, it was early in the morning and jake had just ran enough for a whole months exercise, he followed the same path sunghoon led and opened the bathroom door.

the room was silent, not a single person inside, besides the furthest cubicle which was closed and locked, obviously being the one sunghoon was in. jakes foot steps were echoing in the silence, he looked at himself in the mirror.

what was he doing running after sunghoon?

whatever was happening wasn't his problem anyways...

with both hands resting on the bathroom counter, jake leaned over the sink and let himself just zone off looking in the mirror, he had lost all motivation to go to class and would rather die than walk into the classroom filled with students watch him apologise for being late and have them stare at him as he walked to his seat...how embarrassing.

in the reflection, the cubicle door opened slowly and sunghoon appeared, eyes even more red than before, jake hadn't heard a thing in this empty bathroom — had he been crying silently?

jake watched the tall boy stare back at him through the reflection, he turned around, this time facing sunghoon and looking directly at his face. they blinked at each other before sunghoon broke the eye contact and turned around to go back into the toilet cubicle. jake automatically ran to him and grabbed his arm pulling him away, trying to be as gentle, seeing that sunghoon was already not in the mood.

his mouth was agape, no words came out, jake could now see the red mess was now across his entire face, the tips of his ears, around his puffy eyes, his nose, his lips. the taller male looked so small right now, jake could hold him in his arms like a child, his expression remained emotionless, only his eyes glossy and wet, drooping with no feeling. moisture could be seen on the tips of his eyelashes and trails of tears stained on both his cheeks.

jake really had no idea what to do, so he wrapped his arms around sunghoon's body, lacing his fingers behind him and pressing his face into the crook of the taller boys neck, hoping to give sunghoon some kind of comfort.

hugs are the best.

and to park sunghoon,

this hug was more comforting than any form of love, support and care he had received from anyone else in his entire 17 years of living. and so, he melted in the shorter boys arms, trusting this stranger he had met the day before, see him at his most vulnerable. he dropped his head onto jakes shoulder resting it comfortably before trailing his own hands up jakes waist to his upper back and embracing his presence tightly. his tears tried to escape his puffy eyes once again.

sunghoon might have had his heart mended for the first time that morning.
