Erika's POV
Monday morning rolled around too quickly for my liking. I snuggled deeply into my pillows, savouring the remainder of Kina's scent that coated the fabric. Memories from Saturday's date, from the kdrama to the nap we had taken together, ran rampant through my mind.
My door flew open, pulling me from my blissful daydream. My dad entered sleepily to wake me up. He sat down on the edge of my bed and brushed my hair gently.
"Time to get up nae salangseuleoun ttal" he said tiredly. I sat up and fluffed my messy hair with a smile although I was mentally cursing his punctuality.
"Morning appa" I chirped. He looked taken aback at my refreshed persona this early in the morning.
"You're up already? Are you feeling okay?" he asked putting his hand to my forehead. I giggled and moved his hand away.
"I'm okay appa. Today is just gonna be a good day" I chirped. My dad raised an eyebrow and left me to get ready. I got out of bed and skipped to the bathroom to freshen up. Once I was finished in the bathroom I got dressed and went out to eat breakfast.
"It's gonna rain later today you should take a jacket" my mom said walking out of her bedroom. I nodded and finished off my breakfast. I put my dirty dishes in the sink and returned to my bedroom to fetch my school bag and a jacket.
"You can't still be upset with me about last week" my mom said leaning against my door. I ignored her and grabbed Kina's hoodie from where it sat on my vanity chair. I could feel her eyes on me as I collected all the books I would need for the day.
"I'm not mad about the fact that you and appa fought. I'm mad about the fact that you ditched Seollal because of the fight" I confessed. I put Kina's hoodie on and the smell of her cologne instantly hit me. I picked up my bag and walked out of my room.
"Are you ready?" my dad asked. I nodded and walked out of the door before him. I put on a pair of shoes before going outside to the car. My dad walked out seconds after me with a concerned expression on his face.
"Is everything okay? You've been in a mood since you and your mom talked" he asked.
"I'm okay appa. I'm just tired" I lied. He shrugged and started the car.
The ride to school was silent which gave me time to think about everything that was going on. When we arrived at the school I could not have gotten out of the car faster.
"Bye appa I'll see you later" I said as cheerily as possible. I walked quickly to the eighth grade hallway. Maya was not waiting for me today. Instead, Kina was leaned against my locker talking to her friends.
I took a deep breath and approached them.
"Hi beautiful" Kina greeted me. I hugged her for much longer than was necessary. Kina released me and turned to her friends.
"Friends. You've met my girlfriend right?" Kina introduced. I felt a light colour fill my cheeks and allowed my hair to fall into my face to cover it up.
"You mean my mini? Yes we have met" Cassie smiled. I giggled and the feelings of discomfort disappeared.
"Wait that means you're my unnie" I realised. Cassie's eyes widened in realisation.
"Finally I'm someone's unnie" she said. Gale and Kina looked at us in confusion causing Cassie to roll her eyes.
"How many times have I explained it to you. If a guy is older than you girls will call them oppa and guys will call them hyung. If a girl is older than you then girls will call them unnie and guys will call them noona" Cassie explained.
"Cassie is older than me so I have to call her unnie" I added. Kina and Gale nodded even though it was evident that they were still confused. Kina moved to talk to her friends while I put my books into my locker.
"So are we still ditching after third?" I overheard Gale ask. I kept my attention on my locker, shifting my gaze between my schedule and the books that were piled in front of me.
"Yeah but where are we gonna go? We can't leave campus without a valid reason" Cassie asked. I put the books in my bag to avoid looking suspicious and closed the bag. I took to fixing my hair in the small mirror that was hung up in my locker.
"I got that covered. I have third period with Lane so I'll get us a pass out slip" Kina said. I closed my locker and turned to the group. They broke apart and smiled at me. Kina draped her arm over my shoulder as she leaned against my locker once again.
"How was your date on Saturday?" Gale asked me.
"It was great. I may or may not have gotten Kina hooked on romance dramas" I said sheepishly. Cassie gasped and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Eotteohge!? She won't watch them with me" Cassie complained. I laughed and flipped my hair off my shoulder jokingly
"Naneun her favourite" I teased.
"Yah haengdonghae" Cassie playfully warned.
"Unnie mianhae" I bowed in front of her. She waved me off causing me to giggle. Kina and Gale looked between us with lost expressions. Cassie and I laughed harder at the situation. Maya arrived and I excused myself whilst Cassie tried to explain what had happened.
"Good morning sunshine" I said pulling Maya in for a hug. She muttered a hello into my shoulder. Maya was not a morning person so I didn't blame her. It was clear she hadn't properly woken up yet.
"Did you sleep in?" I asked as she put her books into her locker. She nodded slowly causing me to giggle.
"We have first period literature together. You have details to spill about you and your new boo" she said quietly so nobody would hear us. I nodded and returned to where Kina was so I could say goodbye.
"I'll see you at practice later?" Kina pulled me in for a hug. I shook my head.
"We have to go visit my grandmother before she leaves for Korea tomorrow" I explained. I placed a quick kiss on her lips before leaving with Maya.
"Look at you miss Erika. Kissing your girlfriend in the hallways like high school sweethearts" Maya gushed. I giggled as we ran off to our first period together.
When we arrived at the classroom door we went straight to the back of the class as always so we could talk without being yelled at.
"Okay so spill" Maya said as soon as we sat down at our desks.
I relayed the story about how I had woken up at four in the morning to prepare for the date because I wanted everything to be perfect.
"You must really like her because you never get up early for anyone" Maya chuckled.
"No remember that time you, Airi, Nancy and Tabitha made me wake up at three in the morning at my sleepover might I add, just so you could go into the haunted forest for five seconds" I reminded her. She giggled and pushed me lightly on the shoulder.
"Shut up and tell me what happens next" she pressed. I rolled my eyes and continued to tell her about how Kina had confessed that she wanted to date for real. Maya's eyes widened and she covered her mouth with her hand.
"Oh my god. She kissed you with the Tale of the Nine Tailed theme song playing in the back? That's so fucking cute" she gushed. I covered my face with my hands as a few people in front of us turned around.
"Fuck off and mind your business" Maya told them off. They quickly turned back around and I mouthed a thank you to Maya.
"The best part of it all is when I started falling asleep and she suggested we take a nap together so we went to sleep in my bed" I ended off the story.
"That's so romantic. Straight out of a romance novel" Maya pouted.
"Can you stop talking about your destined-high-school-drop-out girlfriend because we don't give a shit" one of the girls in front of us said.
"Oh fuck off. You wish you were me bitch" I rolled my eyes. Maya looked at me with wide eyes.
"Damn. Maybe you should hang around your girlfriend more. It seems like her attitude is rubbing off on you" Maya commented. We turned back to our desks and continued with our work.
