Halcyon's POV.
I know I knocked out after but when I wake up wanting to feel Tamir's body he isn't there anymore. I let my eyes open trying to focus on the dark of the room before hugging the sheets some more.
A breeze is coming through from the balcony making the mesh curtain around the bed flow and only then do I see the sole figure sitting on a bamboo natural spring chair.
It's certain it's him. His back muscles outlined by the shadow, his hair still messy from before. I slide out of bed going for his shirt that he was wearing earlier then throw it over my head.
I stop at the door before I reach out to open the mosquito net, just at that his head jerks to the sound. "Just me," I step in shutting the net behind me. Staying behind him I let my fingers feel the skin of his shoulder then rub my hands down his chest.
Hugging him from behind I rest my ear on a shoulder blade to take in his side profile. "Is there something wrong?" I question watching him fix his eyes on the ocean view. "You haven't slept yet, not even on the plane." He's silent stuck in his gaze.
I kiss his shoulder, soft and gentle, then move up leaving kisses one by one up his side till his cheek.
My eyes drop to the side table on his left to see a bottle glistening by the moonlight, a bourbon bottle. Oh. He's been drinking. Next to it is his empty cup then a small red box, the same box size as the diamond earrings he got me on our first date.
I pull away reaching out for the box. "Earnings," I go to open it but Tamir stands up so fast to face me that I stumble back and have the net catch me as the box snaps shut once more. "Woah!"
"What are you doing?" His voice is stern reminding me of how cold he can truly be, just like the start of our relationship.
"I just wanted to see the earrings," he reaches out to me at my words and out of impulse I pull away.
"Give me the box."
"Can I see them first?"
"No."
"Why not?" I look at the red box and try opening it just to tease him. He comes right for me but I shuffle away working around the the chair and table to keep our distance. "What is wrong with you?" I watch how he leans onto the chair for support, how drunk is he?
"Halcyon," he steps up straight, "the box."
"How much have you drank?" I cling to the box.
"I didn't...I didn't think you'd wake up." His eyes drop to my hand. "The box."
"A sneak peak?" I open my hand.
"Don't-" he leaps at me. I shriek and my hand moves on it's own towards the beach just as he reaches me. His eyes, wide and bloodshot, watch me. "Where is it?" I blink up at him. "Halcyon!"
"I threw it."
"What?!" His tone frightens me. Then I smell it, from his breath, the strong linger of alcohol. "Why?!"
"I didn't know..." I look out into the beach. "It just sort of happened."
"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
"I'm sorry," his tone leads me to a panic, "their just earnings!"
"You play too damn much!"
"I didn't mean to."
"I need to go after it." He turns.
"It doesn't matter to me, I'm sure someone will find-"
"Shut up!" My jaw drops. "Just let me think." He opens the misquote net door and steps in disappearing.
"I'll find it." I go after him. "I'll go look for it!" I can hear him muttering something. "Tamir I'm sorry," he still doesn't turn to me. "I don't know why I threw it." Something tugs at my gut and the feeling continues to wash over me. "I'm sorry."
"I should have never took it out," he continues to the bathroom.
"They're replaceable right?" I try following him. "Just get me new ones." The door shuts in my face. "Hey I'm sorry," I try the door knob to see it's locked. "I didn't do it on purpose!" What was I thinking?! I should have just given him the stupid earrings when he asked for it! "I panicked okay?!"
I turn back to the bed going for my bag and dig out some shorts, put them on, then grab my phone and go back out into the balcony. He really wanted to give that gift to me, he probably had it all figured out but I messed it up, I have to fix it.
I look over the wood to see the jump isn't as high, even if it was I would still land on soft sand. I brace myself then leap over the wood having an expected impact with the sand.
I was so stupid, so fucking stupid! What was a thinking?! I should have given it back to him!
I don't waste time to start my search for it, flashing my phone flashlight so I can see better. I'll be here till morning if I have to looking for the red box I threw. I won't be able to sleep with this guilt dwelling in me. I have to find it.
I use my feet feeling for any obvious bumps in the sand. My frustration build the longer in out here but find scraps instead of the actual box itself.
I haven't been here for less then twenty four hours and no one here likes me, everyone only seemed to be interested in my escape, then I pissed the only person that can tolerate me off by throwing a gift he had for me off the balcony into an infinity of sand.
Tears build in my eyes daring to fall out but I won't let them, I can cry once I've found it, and I will. I'll search this whole beach until I have to leave for home.
At the speck of sunlight I drop to my knees putting my phone away and start digging for it. "What are you doing?" My eyes dart up at the sudden words.
"I lost something," I whisper continuing to dig. I've been scouting the area for so long but I'm certain it's here somewhere.
"You look a mess," the soft voice says again. And I ignore her. Angel did nothing but insult me yesterday, this, this is nothing.
"What is she doing?" Another voice I can only recognize as Miles asks.
"She lost something."
"What?"
"Beats me." I just keep looking. I've been here for hours, the sand digging into my skin and sweat dropping from my forehead but I can't stop.
"Maybe we should help her find it?" That has to be Elizabeth. "She could get into some serious trouble if it's important."
"It is important." I'm on the brink of completely losing my composure. "It's a red box, please Elizabeth," I look up at her. "Help me find it."
"Of course," she drops to me. "How small of a box."
"It's like a ring box but it has earrings inside. It's not as big as my hand." Now she too starts searching with me. I don't go on to explain how I lost it or how I lost it here, even when I'm asked by Angel then Miles.
"Is it this?" I shoot up looking over my shoulder at Miles. In hand he has a red box, open so he can see it.
"Don't-" I move to snap it shut then take it from him. "I have to go give it back," I turn to the villa. "Thank you!" I race off. "All of you!"
