~Charlie's POV~

I picked up the remote and turned the TV on. I hadn't expected elves would have such advanced technology! The flat-screen TV covered half the wall, and it had impressive features I had only ever dreamed about. OK, maybe I was getting a little too excited about it, but technology was one of my passions in life. I selected the movie option and scrolled down 'till I reached the Hobbit. What isn't there to love about the Lord of the Rings?

I was interrupted by a knock on the door, and in my frustration I replied grumpily. "Who is it?"

The door slid open and I turned around to see who it was.

"Go away Rebecca." I glared at her, not in the mood to talk.

She balanced a plate of cookies (choc chip, my favorite) on the couch beside me and hurried out of the room, almost slamming the door behind her. I recalled how her hand was shaking as she handed me the cookies. She must have been really scared, or nervous. Was I that terrifying?

Suddenly I jumped when I heard her breathe deeply. I turned around, but she wasn't in the room. My hearing seemed to intensify, until I could hear her mutter under her breath "He really does hate me."

I'm sure I wasn't meant to hear that, but how did I? She wasn't even in the same room as me!

Puzzled, I returned to the movie.

~*~

The movie finished, but I was still thinking about Rebecca. It might seem mean, but I wasn't ready to forgive her yet. She had ruined 9 months of my life, not to mention hadn't trusted me enough to tell me the truth. I can't just brush that off without a second thought.

I needed to settle my thoughts, so I got up and went for a jog through the woods. I set the stopwatch on my phone, and then ran along the trail. The trees whizzed past me as I picked up speed, and soon they were just a blur. My feet pounded on the path, creating a steady beat that had me increasing my speed further. The wind whipped my face and branches scratched my legs, but that just made the adrenaline greater. All too soon, I arrived back at Brielle's palace and as I caught my breath I checked the stopwatch.

00:02:31

How is that possible? I'm sure it took me 5 mins last time. How did I half my speed?

Tired and hungry, I headed inside.

What do you think of Charlie's strange breakthroughs? Do you think it's a fluke, that Charlie's imagining it? Or is he not human?

Thanks so much for reading this! I got 200 views last night, so this was a longer chapter. The next chapter will be introducing some new characters, so tell me your thoughts.

Anyway, new character ideas are always welcome.
