The two girls climbed out of bed, exhausted. "Well, this has certainly been quite the night." Said Johanna. "See you next time, I guess?" Embra nodded, and they parted with a kiss. Johanna sat down on the extremely ruffled bedsheets, and sighed happily. Her midsection still hurt, but that was overshadowed by the extreme pleasure she had just had.
She watched Embra bob down the hall, the stood up. She needed to spill some blood to make up for the spill of emotions. Johanna needed a mission. She strode once again to the Grand Magistrate's office, and knocked. "Come in."
Johanna entered, and found the Assistant Grand Magistrate at the desk. Befuddled, Johanna asked, "Where is the Grand Magistrate?"
"He died," the Assistant answered bluntly.
Johanna took a step back. "What?!"
The AGM chuckled heartily. "Learn to take a joke, Johanna. He's out for a meeting."Johanna sighed. "Okay, okay. Anyway, I need a mission. Are there any openings?"
"Um, let me check..." He made a few swipes across the keyboard of his Holo-Pad. "Yeah, we have one that needs a Thanatos-class agent. There's a brother-sister team that keeps killing government journalists, Vortex Officers, and Revision Officers. Also, intel suggests that they have their sights set on a Nightlark."
"A Nightlark? Really? Well, they must be pretty laving good if they want to take on one of those. That, or complete carking idiots."
The AGM chuckled. "Yes, I suppose so. But in any case, they best not succeed. We're down to six, currently, and you know they're hard to replace."
Johanna nodded, then nervously placed her hands behind her back. "Um, speaking of Nightlarks... would it maybe be at all possible that sometime soon I could be promoted from my current position to become the third ever female Nightlark?"
"Hmm. There has been a little talk around the magistral council of doing that, but now that you mentioned it... perhaps we'll take a vote sometime."
"Thank you, sir. That would be great."
"Good. But be warned, there are some tough requirements. Be ready."
She nodded, tapped her mission's coordinates into her arm computer, and left the office.

Johanna noiselessly dropped off her hover bike and kicked open the door of her mission's building. She surveyed her area for a few seconds. Before she could take anything in, the glass behind her shattered.
She cursed, and dove behind a stone half-column, whipping out her handgun. She poked her head out to find where the bullet came from, only to be showered by stone powder as the stone centimeters above he head took a bullet.
She ducked behind the column, and switched on her thermal vision. She spotted a figure across the pool, walking towards her, holding a smoking gun. She grinned, and loaded her magazine of heat-seeking bullets. She blind-fired from her cover, and watched the relatively slow bullet sail towards the target.
She grinned as the bullet struck, the figure fell, and a pool of warm expanded from the shooter's side. Johanna switched off thermal, and stood. She walked towards her opponent, and, along the way, she noticed that the pool was covered in a sheet of glass. She stepped onto it, and sauntered towards the corpse.
Halfway across, she noticed the blood was a bit too red, and the chest of the shooter rising and falling. She stopped momentarily, and the figure took this moment to flip around to his feet and shoot the glass below Johanna's feet. It shattered, and she fell into the pool. In her surprise, she noted that the water was easily below freezing, and thus must be salinated.
