"Oh, wow," Annabeth breathed out.

Her eyes trailed the flashing lights of booths and stands and rides alike. Percy watched with a stroke of amusement in his quirked smile, finding his girlfriend all the more beautiful in her infatuation with the fairgrounds.

He laced his fingers through hers, prompting her attention. Her face glowed when she turned to look at him.

"Hey," he said dopily. The joy on her face melted him on the inside; it eased the ball of anxiety in his chest. The lights and the noise and the crowds made him nervous the second they made their way through the fair gates, but seeing Annabeth so happy made it all worth it. It was rare that they got moments like this, and he was damned if he was going to let it go to waste.

"Hey, yourself," Annabeth laughed. "Percy, this is- the last time I was at something like this, I had to have been- I don't know, but it's been so long!"

He wrinkled his nose playfully in response. "Thalia mentioned you'd like it. I honestly didn't think it'd be your scene, but I'm glad you like it."

Annabeth didn't want to admit that she had a bit of hopeless romantic in her- she supposed she was spending too much time around Piper. But there was something simply joyful in being at the fairgrounds with her boyfriend. Though, he was much more to her than just her boyfriend.

Soulmate, her half, her lover, whatever. She was happier walking down the rows of vendors and games with his hand in hers than she had been in a long time.

She couldn't help but notice that he looked a little stressed. Annabeth bumped his shoulder gently before calling him out on it.

He shrugged, leaning down to kiss her head. "You know me, always paranoid. I'll get over it."

The daughter of Athena squeezed his hand. "Well, real fast- exits. Where we came in. Back entryway to the north, and emergency gates all through here at the fences. If we get split up, we can meet up at the car. Worst case scenario, I have my phone. They have first aid tents here, we both brought nectar. Leo, Jason and Piper are somewhere if we need help. Anything I didn't cover?"

Percy pretended to think about it for a moment. "Yeah, actually. You forgot the, 'But don't worry Seaweed Brain, nothing is going to happen."

Annabeth laughed. Loud, and hearty. "Yeah, no. I'm not jinxing us. But, now we're prepared, so you don't need to be paranoid anymore. But since you always are, what would help you get your mind off of the crowds? Food? Games? Rides?"

Percy was astounded that she knew him so well. "Whatever you want to do is fine with me, Wise Girl."

Her lips quirked up in a devious smile. He sent her a questioning look before she came to an abrupt stop. She pulled his arm, hard, and muffled his squeak of protest with her lips as he fell against her chest.

Percy melted into her, but she pulled back before he could deepen the kiss. There was shock and surprise and mirth in his green irises.

She smiled cheekily up at him, tilting her head to the side. "What if I want to do that?"

His face glowed. "That- I could be okay with that."

Annabeth bit her lip. They tasted like salt, now. "Maybe not in front of the lemonade stand, though."

They both glanced at the employee inside the giant fiberglass lemon who was downright glaring at the couple.

Percy winced. "Maybe not," he agreed before beginning to tug her down the path. "To the Ferris wheel!"
