Maggie avoided Steve whenever she could over the next few weeks. Only interacting with him during training or missions. She groaned when Tony announced yet another party. She didn't want to go, but it was less questions to go and sit by herself than to not go at all. She twirled in front of her mirror. She decided on a long dark blue dress with a open back with a slit up her thigh and a low neckline. She normally went for something more demure, but she figured 'what the hell'.

She took a deep breath and stepped into the party, making a beeline for the bar where Natasha always was. She sat on a stool as Natasha handed her a glass of whisky.

"How are you Maggie?"

Maggie's shrugged her shoulders, "I'm fine."

"Uh huh." Natasha left her alone at the bar as she felt a hand at her lower back.

"You look beautiful Maggie. Dance with me?"

She looked up to see the metal hand of Bucky. She grabbed his hand and let him lead her to the dance floor. "Thanks Bucky." She looked around as he spun her around, seeing Steve walk out to the floor with Sharon. She sighed as she felt Bucky pulling her closer to him, making her look at him.

"He means well doll. He finds it hard to let people in."

"Please don't defend him Buck. I don't ask for a lot. I really don't."

"I know doll." He ran his fingers softly across her cheek. He felt bad for her. Steve was being a jerk, and the only one that couldn't see it was Steve himself. And he was keeping her from opening her eyes to anyone else around her. Steve was being selfish. She could be with anyone else, like him, but she was stuck on Steve being a jerk to her. He sighed as the song ended and she went and sat back down at the bar, pouring herself another drink.

As she finished the drink she heard someone else walk up behind her. She turned around to find Steve holding his hand out to her, "would you like to dance Margaret?"

Maggie stood up, "my name is Maggie. And I don't think that's a good idea Captain."

She started to walk away but Steve grabbed her arm, "please. Maggie."

She didn't look up at him. She was about to say something when Thor held out his hand to her. "Dance with me little one." His eyes never leaving Steve as she grabbed his hand. Steve let go of her arm and let her go with Thor.

"Thank you Thor." She put her arms around his neck as he pulled her close to him.

"Of course little one. Besides, we haven't danced yet tonight." He smiled down at her. He was happy to have her as a friend, if only she saw him as more than. He looked down at his friend, "what's the matter little one?"

"What do you mean?" She placed her hand at the nape of his neck.

"They say you've been avoiding everyone, staying in your room."

"I'm fine Thor."

Thor shook his head, "when will you let someone in little one?"

Before she could answer, the song ended and he disappeared. She groaned as she sat on a couch. As people started to trickle away from the party, the Avengers started to congregate around her. She started to get up to leave the party herself but Tony handed her another drink and told her to sit. They started to play a game of truth or dare which she found juvenile. She looked at Steve and saw he agreed with her as she watched him roll his eyes, making her giggle. He heard her and looked at her, smiling. She blushed and looked away as it was Sharon's turn. She took a dare, 'kiss the most attractive person in the room'. There were 'woos' as she made out with Steve. Maggie felt her face get hot with anger. She watched Steve, seeing he was as uncomfortable as she was. She was about to get up again but she heard someone say it was her turn. She begrudgingly took a dare, being told to kiss Thor. "I don't think that's a good idea."
