I blinked in confusion and horror of seeing the state Ryan’s mum was in. I can only guess that she has been living ruff since last Friday. Her hair was a state, it was wet and ratty looking and had bits of dirt and grass in it. It already looked decoloured and brittle as if she hadn’t washed it in months. She looked cold and weak and I could smell the faint smell of vodka and smoke from her clothes which made me want to throw up. I looked around to see where Ryan was but he had vanished. How could he run away and leave me here with his half dead mother?
“Susanne, are you alright?” I squeaked with concern.
“Shut up ye rat, trust you to come here and find me,” she said her voice slightly slurred.
“Susanne, I’m only trying to help, I didn’t know you were here, we’re concerned about you,” I tried to answer without showing annoyance in my tone.
“Fuck of ye bitch I don’t need help from a child like you,” she spat out as she tried to pull herself up from the ground.
“You need to be put in a mental home! You’re out of your bloody mind. You need a lot more help than from just me anyways!” I said anger boiling inside me. I felt like slapping her across the face, she really is an ignorant bitch.
I angrily got up from beside Susanne and stormed off in the direction of my park. I can’t stand that woman, how she treats people, especially her family. She has no right what so ever. She thinks she can go around ruining people’s life and she just doesn’t give a fuck. Ryan and his family are far better on without her. All she was doing was bringing them down and costing their dad his job trying to pay off all the bills on his own. They don’t need someone like her in their life, she’s nothing but a careless, selfish being who doesn’t deserve a family like them.
I left the park not taking a second glance back at Susanne. When I got back to our park I decided to go find out where Ryan is so I just thought he must have went back home. I rang the doorbell and the bright yellow number thirty one door swung open in less than thirty seconds.
“Hey Steven, is Ryan home?”
“No, I thought he was with you.”
“No, oh he must have gone over to Dan’s house, thanks Steven, see you later.”
“Goodbye.”
Shit, where had Ryan gone now? I hope he isn’t planning on running away too. What was I thinking, why would he run away in the first place? This couldn’t be happening, I’m sure he is alright. I decided I would go back to my house to see if he was there just in case he wanted some space or wanted to see me when I got back. Just as I unlocked the door to my house the familiar tune of my ringtone rang again as I took it out of my pocket and checked the caller ID.
*Unknown number*
“Hello?” I stuttered.
“Hello Charlotte.” The deep, strange, unrecognisable voice said. The voice was very deep and gave me that feeling where you know they weren’t a good person.
“Who’s calling?” I stuttered again.
“Let’s just cut to the chase, if I don’t get my money from Susanne by tomorrow then you won’t be seeing Ryan again,” ‘and the call just disconnected like that.
What? What does he mean I won’t see Ryan again? Where is Ryan? What, what the hell is going on? Who even was that and what have they done with Ryan. It has got to be something to do with Susanne. That mother of his just keeps on screwing and screwing up everyone’s life it’s unfair. Just because his mums a failure doesn’t mean that it can be life threatening for Ryan. It’s unfair. I could kill her right now. I need to go back around to Steven now for help I can’t sort this all out on my own.
‘Ding, Dong’
“Oh hello again Charlotte, is everything okay?”
“Not really, can I come in?”
“Yes, sure, come on in.”
“So what’s the problem?” He asked seeming pretty busy but still concerned enough to listen. I sat down on the brown leather sofa in the living room and took a deep breath.
“It’s Ryan, he’s, he’s been kidnapped.” I stuttered almost breaking into tears, I couldn’t control myself. His tall figure froze as he acknowledged what I said.
How could it be? How could my best friend be kidnapped? These things don’t happen.
“What? You must be joking, right?” He said clearly startled by what I said.
“No I just got a call from some man. He threatened me that if I didn’t get Susanne to give him his money then we would never see Ryan again.”
“That, that bitch! She said she was finished with him, she said she owed him no more money. That’s why she ran away. She thought she could leave all the money for us to pay. How dare her, that evil manipulative bitch.”
“But Steven, if we don’t get her to pay the money, then we’ll never see Ryan again. We need a way to get her back. We need to get Ryan back but how are we supposed to find him and find out who he is.” I pleaded hoping for an answer.
“No worries, I’m pretty sure she has his number on her old phone up in the bedroom, I’ve been hiding it from her for weeks now receiving text after text from him. His name is Robert and he lives about two hours from here. I can get the tracker on my phone and find out his exact address.”
“Well what are you waiting for Steven? We need to go now!” I said charging out the front door to the direction of Steven’s car.
