After longingly staring at the four words that stared back at me the guilt started flooding in. The constant messages I received all evening that I ignored whilst I was out with Reese, enjoying ourselves. How could I be so selfish? Ryan must feel awful right now. I know many would just think he would be pleased but that was only partly because of what she had done. Deep down inside Ryan longed and hoped for his mum to return back to her old self but the divorce just broke all hopes now.

Going into the contacts on my phone, I searched Ryan’s number and pressed the green button.

“Pick up Ryan! Pick up!” I mumbled hopelessly tapping my feet continuously off the ground hoping for an answer.

After ringing another four times I finally gave up and decided to go over to his house. After jumping what felt like ten stairs at a time I grabbed the keys and locked the front door behind me. When I neared his house I realised all the lights were off and it was nearly half eleven. Scrambling up to the door step I rang the doorbell and listened to the chime that came from the inside of his house but there was no answer. I rang it another three times but still no one answered. Taking a few steps backwards in the garden I peered up at his bedroom window. I watched the  window for any movement but nothing. Collecting a few small pebbles from the path I started throwing them lightly at the window.

“Come on Ryan,” I mumbled throwing the last of the pebbles up at the window somewhat with more power this time. Suddenly the curtains pulled back revealing a shirtless Ryan.

“I’m so sorry Ryan, can I come up?” I half whispered, half shouted in a hushed tone.

“Sure,” he said emotionless shutting the window leaving me standing outside alone again. Thirty seconds later the front door opened leaving me an entrance into his house. I followed him up the stairs and into his room then sat on his bed. It reminded me of the time that we found out Susanne ran away. It was bringing back to many horrible memories to be forgotten about.  After a few minutes I finally broke the silence.

“I’m sorry Ryan.” I sighed

“It’s fine.”

“No, I should have been there for you, you and your dad were going through a tough time and I feel awful for not being there for you so I’m sorry,” I replied as a tear rolled down Ryan’s cheek. Wiping the tear away from his cheek with the sleeve of my hoodie I enveloped him in a gigantic bear hug.

“It’ll be alright Ryan, she’s no good, as soon as the divorce papers are signed she’ll be gone for good and you won’t have another thing to worry about.”

“Thanks Char,” he said as I released him from my hug. He sighed brushing his fingers through his hair whilst gazing around his room seeming to be in deep thought.

“I better be getting home now,” I said with a smile.

“Yeah, I’ll see you in the morning.”

“Hey, why don’t we all go to the park tomorrow? Me, you, James, Dan, Lexi and Mollie like good old times,” I asked smiling at the thought.
